McCartney-Wonder Hit Tops UK Worst Duets List

UNDATED -- The Paul McCartney-Stevie Wonder hit "Ebony and Ivory" tops a new list of the worst duets.

BBC Radio Six conducted the poll, seeking listeners' views on the collaborations they like the most -- and least. The 1982 tune is one of two tracks the former Beatle has in the top 10 worst list. "The Girl Is Mine," his duet with Michael Jackson, has the No. 6 spot. Elton John and David Bowie also have two collaborations on the worst list.

Elton's "Live 8" performance of "Children of the Revolution" with British rocker Pete Doherty is coming in at No. 7, while his version of "Don't Let the Sun Go Down On Me" with George Michael takes the No. 9 spot.

In the entertainment biz, he gave William Shatner a way to showcase his musically talents. There's a real media clip of him doing "Rocket Man" in the late 1970s. "...I'll be high...[takes a long drag on a cigarette]... as a kite by then..."

Elton John probably inspired the move towards less garish eyeglass ware, too. Heck, there's a current commercial making fun of a woman wearing "bug sun glasses".

Both The Righteous Brothers and Simon And Garfunkel frequently sang duets. Their acts were duos. Their performances were duets, more often than not...as opposed to Hall And Oates, who usually featured a solo vocal from one and backing vocals from both.

Innervisions was one of the first albums I ever owned, one of the greatest albums of all time, IMHO.

Stevie went downhill after that.

It's amazing to me that Paul McCartney could have been half of the Beatles' songwriting team that put out so much brilliance between the Hard Day's Night album and the Hey Jude single (a four year span) and that Stevie Wonder could have written, performed and released Music Of My Mind, Talking Book, Innervisions and Fulfillingness' First Finale (all in less than three years) and yet they were able to perform such tripe so unashamedly.

Well, the duos duets weren’t duets in the call and response type (if that’s what it’s called) like, say, the Sinatra’s “Something Stupid”, or “Hey Paula” by Paul and Paula, or the always stupid male-female duets in country. Which reminds me of Sonny and Cher. Their voices were so similar, they didn’t sound like typical duets most of the time. And, of course, the Everly Brothers never ever, to my knowledge, sang duets,
