Reid Continues To Press For Limbaugh Apology
WASHINGTON -- October 8, 2007: Clear Channel CEO Mark Mays last week declined to apologize for a September 26 on-air remark by Rush Limbaugh -- syndicated by CC-owned Premiere Radio networks -- so now the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee has sent an e-mail, signed by Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, to supporters asking them to contact Mays and demand that he make Limbaugh apologize.
"It's one thing to call me 'Dingy Harry,' Reid wrote, "it's another to insult our men and women in uniform, calling those who oppose the war 'phony soldiers' as Rush did during his Sept. 26 broadcast."
The e-mail, which includes a direct link to send an e-mail to Mays, ends with, "Rush certainly has the right to say whatever he wants -- but we have an obligation to speak out when he goes too far."
On September 26, a caller to Limbaugh's show complained about the press's coverage of the Iraq war, "They like to pull these soldiers that come up out of the blue and talk to the media." Limbaugh responded, "The phony soldiers," to which the caller said, "The phony soldiers. If you talk to a real soldier, they are proud to serve."
Reid complained on the Senate floor that Limbaugh had called all soldiers who oppose the war "phony soldiers" and sent a letter to Mays -- signed by 41 Democratic senators -- demanding that he condemn Limbaugh's words. Mays declined to do so, saying, "I will not condemn talent" for expressing their views.
Limbaugh has steadily maintained that he was referring only to Jesse MacBeth, who gave media interviews reporting atrocities by American troops before admitting in court that he had been discharged from the Army after six weeks and never went overseas. Limbaugh referred to MacBeth by name later in the call in which the "phony soldiers" exchange took place.
“It’s one thing to call me ‘Dingy Harry,’ Reid wrote, “it’s another to insult our men and women in uniform, calling those who oppose the war ‘phony soldiers’ as Rush did during his Sept. 26 broadcast.”
Ooooohhhh.... So that’s what this is about, huh? It’s personal.
Typo...they meant US Senate Minority Leader, not House...
Hahahahaha I’ve been thinking that all along...the only reason Reid is so pissed about this (moreso than the other Dems it seems) is because Rush calls him Dingy.
Second that. Reid is a liar. The entire attack on Limbaugh is a fabrication. It’s an outrage. Read my tagline.
“Its all about fundraising.”
Regardless of what it’s about, I’m tired of conservatives taking it on the chin every time they open their mouths. And Rush didn’t even say what he’s accused of. You can’t trust liberals, they’re only interested in power.
An apology is needed, but coming from Reid, not Rush/ Since I spent 13 months in Iraq, I feel very strongly about that. Now it seems that Waxman is monitering conservative radio talk show hosts like Rush and Hannity. The dems are attacking freedom of speech which is one of the foundations of our Rebublic. God help us if they succeed
You’re milking this gaffe for your core,
You don’t want Rush Limbaugh no more,
But he will survive
And perhaps even thrive
in four years he’ll even the score.
For even if Hillary wins,
Rush will point out all of her sins,
And the elephant winner
Will then eat your dinner
When 2011 begins.
But what if the mood next November
Is something you’ll surely remember?
The Hillary core
Can’t expand any more
And Obama’s group will dismember.
Good for Reid.....he’s only feeding Rush’s machine...HAHAHAHAHA
Harry Reid is Dingy Harry. Obama has big ears.
Rush is a fund raising machine. Someone should tell them he’s not running for office.
IMHO this effort is a precursor to getting conservative talk radio off the air for this election cycle. Mark L. talks about going to court to rectify the situation but by he wins it will be too late. I don’t think the issue can get through congress rather the ACLU and a friendly court will take care of it for them. I suspect the effort will be mounted just before the convention season. I wouldn’t worry about the constitution. The demon rats don’t care about it and neither do liberal courts. They are brazen though. They must believe victory is within their grasp.
But it did didn’t it?
Good catch!
The earth will be a cold black clinker circling a long dead star before rush apologizes.
Dingy Harry is at it again.
Harry, why don’t you hold your breath till Rush apologizes, huh?
Cool.
I thought Reid played the little nazi tossed over the bridge in the “Blues Brothers.”
