"I believe a fetus is a human being who deserves protection under the law from being killed. But if the goal is to save the lives of unborn children – and it should be – we need to look at our primary line of attack and see what it has achieved..."

Given the premise of the article that abortion will never be banned yet lives need to be saved, then this is what needs to be done and can be achievable.

- No more federal money for abortions

- The State cannot give abortions to minors without parental notification of both the girl and the boy.

- The girl, boy, and their respective parents must all meet to discuss the issue with counselors.

That's not a solve all in the above but it puts responsibility of pregnancy into the hands of those involved. It's a start.

***The girl, boy, and their respective parents must all meet to discuss the issue with counselors***

If both kids and both sets of parents get involved, the baby will live.

BUT, If a government school counselor gets involved, the baby will die.

All of your solutions are good and would be voted in by the electorate of every state -

but, the courts have ruled every one of them as a burden and prohibitive barrier to “obtain health care”.

And, since the courts, being filled with the elite of our society, know better than the electorate, we should all just shut up and live by their dictates.

I would also add, the use of ultrasound on pregnant women.

And using those resources they save on true charity - Crisis pregnancy centers with adoption resources. Make adoption a "good" choice again.

Not everyone is ready to be a parent, but there are many out there that have been unable to become parents.

Understand that a bill was introduced by Republican - not sure if house or senate - to mandate that doctors show ultrasound to expectant mother prior to having her sign auth for abortion. Susan K cancer fund contributes a LOT of money to Planned Parenthood. When I found out decided I would no longer contribute. Link between our current generation not valuing anyone else’s life and ease with which they agree to abortion?

In order to achieve those goals, the first thing that has to happen is for Roe-v-Wade to be overturned. If pro-lifers sit out the election because the perfect Republican was not the nominee, they can forget about that happening.

We must work within the political process as much as we can, realizing our limitations, but more importantly, work to change hearts and minds. This has come a long way in the last 15 years, as shown by the opinion polls, and I believe that pretty strong restrictions on abortion can be achieved in most, if not all, states, if we can get Roe-v-Wade overturned, because, until that time, any restrictions will be overturned within that precendent.

I believe a fetus is a human being who deserves protection under the law from being killed.
***I do too. That fetus deserves protection extended by the state.

I do wonder if it is biblical to extend “full” protection to a fetus? I.e. when a man hurts a pregnant woman, he’s expected to pay an eye for an eye & a tooth for a tooth. But if the unborn baby is killed, the price is not the same.

Perhaps it is time to consider a 3 (or even 4) tiered system of protection.

Tier 1: Living, viable, late term baby which will not be aborted unless the life of the mother is at stake.

Tier 2: Living, not-yet-viable pre-born human who should have the right to protection and life and a safe womb to which it can attain viability. Cannot be aborted unless there is an open rape case associated with the pregnancy or the life of the mother is at stake.

Tier 3: Living, early stage, not yet viable pre-born human for whom we do not extend the rights of life in this society because of a historical snag where we once considered such tissue not to be a baby. We as a society thought it was best to consider it a private decision. I personally do not believe in Tier3 abortions, but I can understand that there are many who think it is a “right to choose” at this stage. It may be time to consider a program where the woman declares her pregnancy and intent to abort. Our societal function at this point would be to provide a family that is willing to adopt this baby and to put up this woman for 6-8 months in a safe environment so the baby can grow and maybe the woman can learn some life skills. If our society cannot muster the forces necessary to save this baby, the woman has the sickening “right” to abort this pregnancy. Time for us to put up or shut up.

With a 3-tiered plan in place, women would stop using abortion as a means of birth control. Millions of lives would be saved. We would extend the right to life to every human that we have resources to save. Unfortunately, if we cannot put up the resources to save the Tier3 babies, we still would have this horrible practice staining our nation’s soul.
