President George Bush has repeated his belief all religions, "whether they be Muslim, Christian, or any other religion, prays to the same God" – an assertion that caused outrage among evangelical leaders when he said it in November 2003.

The doctrine of which you speak is called double predestination advocated by Beza. IMHO, it is extrabiblical and not well supported by Scripture. IMHO, the doctrine arose after Calvin passed and is more based upon rationalism, than upon faith through Christ. Accordingly it may tend to promote legalism rather than faith.

It is a bone of contention by some believers of various denominations. There are many here who would disagree with me, so I don’t pretend to speak for “Calvinists”.

"The Old Testament is great Scripture."

Not only that it's essential in order to have a solid understanding of the New Testament. (as solid as we puny humans can get, even with the help of the Holy Spirit.) Trying to make any sense of the book of Revelation from Chapter 4 on without a solid grounding in the Old Testament is a complete waste of time.

Islamanuts are not praying to the same God that Christians are.

Last time I looked their god wants everybody dead.

The point is that those that believe in a God can have the wrong CONDUIT but in the end it is the same God. It is just that some have the wrong idea of what God is all about.

I agree.

However, I refuse to believe that God is evil. And in my opinion, someone who punishes others for doing things he caused them to do without choice is evil.

I’ll take my chances with whether God can accept such an opinion.

Rather, it bespeaks a lack of thoughtfulness, the kind of common-sense pondering that, from his youth, characterized Abraham Lincoln

Well, heck, that just reads as though it describes all of us FReepers....

What d'ya think Honest Abe?

The whole interview is an outrage.

I’m speechless at the dumb things he said.

“Whatever”

Can I quote you on that?

Jesus, Satan, Staypufft Marshmallow Man?

Whatever.

All the same. All bowling buddies.

I wonder how well that went over?

I don't think that the Hindu extremist who assassinated him entirely accepted Gandhi's viewpoint. But I take it you know that?

Ah, last time I checked, Jesus isn’t God.

John 10:31 I and my Father are one.

also " He that hath seen the Father , hath seen me"....I believe God means what He says.

Do you seriously believe that only trolls don’t believe in predestination?

If so, you have a remarkably narrow view of the world.

Why exactly would you think anything I have said on this thread constitutes trolling? I have not challenged anyone’s sincerity or honesty, only stated where I disagree or why. If you can find any dishonesty or insincerity in what I’ve said, I’d appreciate you pointing it out.

Except I have to check out now. Work tomorrow.

He is so far above us that we have no hope of correctly rationalizing his actions and motives.

Yeah, but then again that's why salvation isn't based upon rationalism, using our soul as a system of perception, nor upon empiricism, using our bodies as systems of perception, but rather upon faith, a system of spiritual perception.

Once He regenerates our human spirit, His nature of loving His believers results in His giving us many things through grace, including knowledge and wisdom of Him by His Plan, by His mechanisms, to understand Him as He has intended.

"In that case, what was the point of tempting them?"

Just for clarification sake, who do you think tempted Adam and Jesus?

Thou shalt have no other gods before Me.

Evidently some folks don't agree with George.

AMen and Amen, Battman. YOu said it well. GW has really dissapointed a lot of evangelicals that thought his faith was in Christ Alone. God alone will be the Supreme Judge but I sure don’t like the sound of this.

" He that hath seen the Father , hath seen me"....I believe God means what He says."

I believe you got that backwards (probably a typo) It should be "whoever has seen me has seen the Father" (Jn 14:9) because earlier Jesus says no one has seen the Father but the Son.

Among other things (like the border/illegal alien issue, the North American Union (that isn’t happening, but it is), George Bush is totally, 100 percent, completely and utterly WRONG when he says all religions pray to the same god. That is completely untrue. His own religion he says he belongs to and is devout in disproves his very own statement.

He is also wrong when he says that religious people do not kill others for the sake of their religion. They certainly do, and Islam is one religion that allows and in some cases encourages it. It is certainly not the only one. But they believe they are following their god’s commands by doing so, regardless of whether we call them relgious people or not.

Oh yeah, Bush is also wrong on his ‘new’ stance on global warming, and wrong on the UN Law of the Sea Treaty.

There is one God who can answer all prayer, albeit not in the manner we would always choose nor with the answer we may desire.

This fact does NOT mean every individual is praying to the same God. Honestly, how can he read of the Egyptian gods in the O.T. and make that assertion? they certainly were NOT praying to the Father I recognize, anymore then Muslims are praying to Jesus Christ. And what of the satanic cults? Am I to believe their religion is praying to Christ? Please.

And while I realize this opens me up to (wrongly Hugh Hewitt) being called a Mormon basher, sorry, I don’t recognize that we are worshiping the same God either. The only religion I feel a kinship to other then my own is that of the Jewish faith. And Orthodox Jews would more then likely deny the connection.

It’s not as thought this strain of thought G.W.B. expresses is unique. It’s prevalent in certain evangelical churches and the late Pope touched on it as well. This is why I’ve distanced myself from some evangelicals (not all) and why I prefer the current Pope over the former.
