New Mexico's birth rate in 2005 exceeded the national average, despite a long-term decline in the state's birth rate for teen mothers, according to a new health department report.
The New Mexico Department of Health's 2005 New Mexico Selected Health Statistics Annual Report says:
# New Mexico residents gave birth to 28,822 babies in 2005. The state's 2005 birth rate of 14.6 percent slightly exceeded the U.S. rate of 14 in 2004, the latest year available.
# Single mothers accounted for half the state's births in 2005.
# The birth rate of New Mexicans ages 15 to 19 decreased 22.8 percent from 1990 to 2005.
# New Mexico grew at the 16th-fastest rate in the nation from 2000 to 2005, when the state's population reached about 1.97 million.
# The state's ethnic composition in 2005 was: Anglo, 43.1 percent; Hispanic, 41.4 percent; and American Indian, 11.2 percent.
# The leading causes of death in 2005 were heart disease, cancer, accidents, chronic lower respiratory diseases and stroke.

For the NM PING! list
Half of all births are [to] unmarried mothers AND UNMARRIED FATHERS
If the Government assumes the responsibility of fatherhood is it any wonder that some let them?
Point taken.
NM REPUBLICAN VOTED FOR SCHIP! SHE OBVIOUSLY SAW THESE #’S??
Thanks for the grammar correction. Or as Dr. Laura would say, “sperm donors.”
Is tuberculosis included in "chronic lower respiratory diseases"?
Oh my....let’s see, New Mexico.
I wonder if those would be unwed Mexican mothers??????
Hehe, sperm donors.. the sad thing is I wish these women would use actual sperm donors if they are going to raise a baby by themselves. From my observation these single moms choice of donor leaves a lot to be desired.
Like they could pick some handsome phd student.. instead its some low life who can’t be there for the birth because hes in prison for stealing copper wire or dealing meth.
“New Mexico - Better Welfare than Old Mexico”
And how many are anchor babies of illegals?
But there are plenty of husbands paying for these kids!
They’re just married to other women and forced to support the kids through taxes.
Sperm donors and walking talking incubators.
Okay, and these anchor babies would each get the 5K that Hillary! wants to give every baby born in the US.
My take is that a brand new industry would spring up, where these moms sign away the babies' 5k in exchange for cash, that they can spend on clothes or give to the BF.
