An anchor has been attached to a proposal in the U.S. Senate that will slow down progress on the plan that could be used to permanently remove a person's right to own a gun in the United States, according to an organization opposing the measure.
Eric Pratt, a spokesman for Gun Owners of America, told WND that Sen. Tom Coburn, R-Okla., has attached a "hold" to the plan, H.R. 2640, dubbed the "Veterans Disarmament Act," which means that while the bill remains alive, its advance will be delayed considerably.
Pratt's group earlier launched a campaign encouraging citizens to call their U.S. senators and ask them to oppose the bill that could be described as "disarmament by diagnosis."
The Gun Owners also are being joined by other organizations in opposing the proposal, including the Military Order of the Purple Heart, and now the American Legion.
"The American Legion, the nation's largest wartime veterans' service organization, strongly opposes specific provisions of H.R. 2640 that would unilaterally abrogate the rights of certain service-connected disabled veterans to own firearms, a right guaranteed by the Second Amendment," the group said in a newly released statement.

..."But those who staff the NRA, without consulting the membership, have now made a series of strange and dangerous alliances with the likes of Chuck Schumer, Carolyn McCarthy, and Pat Leahy. And we believe that, if allowed to continue, this will produce anti-gun policies which the NRA staff will bitterly regret."

Defend your country, lose your rights.
I remember my great grandad telling stories when he came back from WWII - not sure if it’s an urban legend or not but Eleanor Roosevelt suggested putting the armed forces in camps when they came back because of their exposure to all that violence ... had to be rehabilitated before they would be allowed back into society ....
Now there is the question regarding part of this bill that would have reinstated some people’s Rights from as far back as the 1960’s. Is the GOA going to see that part of this bill is passed?
We all know that you’re the NRA’s chief propagandist here.
Save your breath.
“The National Rifle Association (NRA) supports the bill, which its board member and House Energy and Commerce Committee Chairman John Dingell (D-Mich.) helped to craft....”
Shame on the NRA for falling for this trojan horse Dingell. Dingell was the last holdout to the Gun Control Act of 1968, also.....then he sold out.
Do you know that the “new” Detroit Veterans Hospital is named for him?
Total red herring. You should be less gullible.
The GOA is peddling a load of crap this time.
True True True .... just wondering about that story ....
Schumer is a smarmy bastard.
All he's gonna need to launch a full frontal assault on the Second Amendment is for The Beast to occupy the Oval Office.
Which is another reason why I'm stocking up on black guns and ammo.
Yeah, no kidding. And the GOA supporters still lay claim they have the best group fighting gun control. Have you ever noticed they can never report exactly what the GOA has ever done since they started collecting member’s money?
I told one supporter that I would love to work for him/her. All I would have to do is send emails once in awhile explaining what a great job I was doing instead of actually doing something.
How can someone state a no compromise position if they have never done anything?
You need to get better informed. This bill is a danger to every gun owner.
Even if this is a “load of crap”, we had better slow the bill down long enough so we all can understand the consequences fully.
Probably part of the real intent of the bill.
I was a kid when the WWII vets were coming home and the liberals were all wringing their hands that there would be a bloodbath because these guys “were used to all that violence.”
Later on these libs complained that the 50s were “boring”. It seemed that all those “bloodthirsty” veterans wanted nothing more than peace and tranquility as they tried to make up for four lost years of their lives.
There isn’t anything in this bill that would have stopped veterans from losing their Rights. A doctor’s, Veterans Administration or psychologist’s diagnosis isn’t a adjudication or commitment under the law. Since 1968, some veterans lost their Rights to own a gun and there hasn’t been a procedure for that Right to be restored. This bill would have corrected that oversight.
So the GOA stops a law that would have actually restored some people’s rights if they would have had this law in place. They get to finally claim they did something for the first time and the NRA isn’t accused of giving weapons to lunatics like the media would have claimed.
Sounds like a win/win to me.
Story has been posted here and debunked several times, it's just a bunch of worldnet whatever BS.
But then I bet you did a search didn't you.
