(Washington, D.C.) Congresswoman Jo Ann Davis died at her Gloucester home this morning after a courageous battle with breast cancer. She was 57. Davis was first diagnosed with breast cancer in 2005 and had a re-occurrence earlier this year.
Davis had been receiving breast cancer treatment at Duke University and just recently had received positive reports on her condition. However, during the last week Davis health took a turn for the worse.
Details of the funeral services will be forthcoming.

It happens. Of course, this isn’t nearly as bad as the ‘30s when a lot of members died during that enormously stressful period, including Speaker Nicholas Longworth (the last Republican to win more than 1 consecutive term as Speaker until Gingrich nearly 7 decades later).

My mother in law died of breast cancer, but it took three rounds and a dozen years for it to win. Given weeks to live, she lasted almost 2 years in the final round.
My wife found out she had a small lump the same week that MIL found her third round. So far, thank God, she’s had clean health reports.
If you catch cancer early, it’s a very winnable battle. If you catch it late (Mom’s third round) or ignore symptoms (her first round) then your prognosis can be pretty grim....

You forgot Paul Gillmor of Ohio.

Gillmor did not die of cancer, he died in an accidental fall down the stairs.
