Global Warming Hot Enough for CNN a Second Day

By Dan Gainor - The Boone Pickens Free Market Fellow - Business & Media Institute

Global warming certainly generated a lot of heat – for CNN. Meteorologist Rob Marciano told the October 4 “American Morning” audience: “There are definitely some inaccuracies” in the Al Gore film “An Inconvenient Truth.” After the previous report ended up “stirring a new storm” and generating “a lot of e-mails to our show,” Marciano followed up with even more things Gore got wrong the next day.

Anchor Kiran Chetry summed up the network sense of the debate at the end. “Just don’t say anything for a couple more days.”

That pretty well sums it up. Sit down, Shut up, Keep your non GW opinions to yourself, and we might let you keep your job..............

Can't get clearer than that.

One of the funnier GW moments I saw was earlier this year when a tornado ripped through Kentucky I believed. Katie Couric was doing the story and went to the local CBS affiliate weatherman for his take on the storm.

I know it was coming...she asked, “Did Global Warming have a part to play in this tornado?” The weatherman looked visibly unprepared for that question and answered, “Um...no Katie I don’t believe so. While this tornado was uncommonly early in the season, this part of the country is in tornado alley so it’s a natural occurrence.”

After the story was over, I told my wife “Well that guy just lost his job.”

Since Al Gore says this is so important to the survival of the human race......there absolutely should be a debate on this with Al Gore and scientist that say he’s wrong. If he doesn’t want to do this, then we all need to ignore him. This includes Congress. A debate is a must and should be demanded.

Yes, there’s global warming.
No, we didn’t cause it.
No, we can’t “fix” it.
No, China and India aren’t going to get onboard.
Yes, we’re in a reoccuring 400 year warming trend we didn’t cause.

I think the liberal Kiran had wanted to go to Cnn for some time and probably wanted to get away from all the right wingers at Fox. But I think she’s finding out that there are some extremists on the left as well, and many of them watch Cnn! Just as Kiran was too liberal for Fox, she’s looked at as not liberal enough by many of the Cnn viewers. As far as Rob Marciano goes, he did say that scientists were pretty much all in agreement that global warming is a man-made problem, which I don’t think is necessarily true. I’ve heard Marciano say things in the past that indicates he’s still a true believer in global warming, so he’s not off the reservation by any means. I’m sure anyone that is hired by Cnn has to pass a little test first, so if he’s working there, he’s working for their agenda.

Amazing source of data with a great library, historical data, and a weekly news release going back to 1998!

Which explains the feeling of wanting to be shot out of an airlock without a helmet whenever I hear him speak. Pure torture.

Wrap your head in a towel and you won't hear him. (However, you run the risk of being mistaken for bin laden and getting beaten or shot -- but that's still preferable over listening to Algor.)

It appears that whether or not it is occurring depends upon your start and end dates. At least so far (Aug 2007), the GISS repairs to their data suggest that for the U.S. the 1930s average was slightly warmer than the 1990s and trivially cooler than the incomplete 2000s; the first 6 years of the 1930s being on average warmer than the first 6 years of the 2000s; that the warming trend from the 1910s to the 1930s was about twice as steep as for the time from the 80s to 2000s; that the 1930s were consistantly warm; and that the annual variation dwarfs the centries worth of warming one year, and completely bleeds off a centuries worth of warming the next.

So...from 1630 to now, it has warmed. from 1901 to now it has warmed. from 1930s to now it has cooled. from 1953 to 2003 it has cooled. from 1970 to now it has warmed. from 1998 to now it has cooled. From 1900 to 2000 it has remained the same (miniscule cooling of -.05C).

Oops. Meant 1931-1935, compared to 2001-2005 (by almost .1C). Actually 1930-1934 were warmer than 2000-2004 too. ...per GISS adjusted data.
