Poll Shows Giuliani Atop An Unsettled GOP Race Ex-Mayor Gets High Marks on Leadership
Washington Post ^ | 10-3-2007 | Dan Balz & Jennifer Agiesta

Rudolph W. Giuliani leads the race for the GOP presidential nomination, with Republican voters describing him as the field's strongest leader and most electable candidate in the 2008 general election, according to a Washington Post-ABC News poll.

But the Republican contest remains unsettled just three months before the first votes will be cast, and in comparison with fellow New York politician Hillary Rodham Clinton, Giuliani is a far less solid front-runner. He has double the support of his nearest rival, but a majority of those who support him do so only "somewhat." At the same time, his advantages on key attributes are smaller today than they were earlier in the campaign, reflecting continued uncertainty among Republicans about their choices in the presidential race.

The poll also marked an interruption in what had been a slow but steady rise in support for Fred D. Thompson. The former senator from Tennessee nearly doubled his support from April to early September as he prepared to enter the race, but he has not picked up additional backing since.

Giuliani topped the Republican field with 34 percent, with Thompson at 17 percent and Sen. John McCain (Ariz.) at 12 percent in the new poll. Former Massachusetts governor Mitt Romney was in fourth with 11 percent but has continued to make strong showings in polls testing the crucial early contests in Iowa and New Hampshire. . .

National polls don't mean a lot at this point. However, according to this poll Fred's momentum seems to have stalled. We shall see.

This is the washington post. The slimes and the post have been smearing Fred and touting Rudy hard the last several days, harder than normal I mean. This crap means nothing. Rudy has about as much leadership ability as a dog.

Communists don't lead, they legislate and beat down. Rudy did nothing during 9/11 except stand around and tell people how great he was doing. Fred will win out and Rudy will be history, despite what the liberals want.

Liberals know that Rudy will cause a split in the republican(notice I didn't say conservative, anyone who votes for Rudy is not a conservative but an idiot)vote, since a lot of consevatives won't vote for Rudy. This is the liberals dream, hence they tout Rudy and try to make us believe he is the only republican candidate to vote for, same old tactics, you would think they would learn something new.

I think there’s a lot of people waiting to see how Fred does in a debate. If he does well, I think his numbers will climb significantly.

“Rudy Attacks Hillary As Being Like George McGovern — Even Though He Voted For McGovern Himself

By Greg Sargent - October 3, 2007, 7:47PM

Rudy slammed Hillary today over her recent comments about giving a $5,000 savings bond to every baby born in this country. Rudy said:

“It’s interesting that Hillary is taking something from the George McGovern playbook.”

The reference to McGovern was apparently an allusion to McGovern’s proposal as a South Dakota Senator to send $1,000 to every resident of the United States.

The only problem, as the Associated Press drolly notes, is this:

In the 1972 election, Giuliani liked McGovern and his ideas enough to vote for him for president.

Details, details.”

Here’s a REAL leader who GETS THINGS DONE!

Duncan Hunter has been the most effective candidate on securing our borders. He had a fence built in San Diego, which tremendously stopped crime in San Diego, including illegal drug trafficking, and authored the bill for an 854 mi. double border fence with border patrol in between, which was signed into law. Duncan Hunter says that border security is national security.

Hunter built up the military that Clinton tore down when Hunter was Chairman of the House Armed Services Committee (when the Republicans had the majority), and he got us ABS deployed in Alaska, to name a few examples of true leadership.

Yes, I think many voters are interested to see how Fred debates, but I wish that the debate moderators would start giving EQUAL TIME to all of the candidates.

I definitely agree! Duncan Hunter never gets equal time at these debates, although he usually does very well when he does get a question. I hope he hangs in there though, he has a lot to add to the debate and he is absolutely, without a doubt - the truest conservative candidate running.

The latest from Rasmussen.

A Rasmussen Reports survey released today shows that 27% of Republican voters say they would opt for a third-party pro-life candidate if Giuliani wins the GOP nomination. While those numbers would almost certainly decline by Election Day 2008, the threat of a third-party run may raise questions about the New Yorker’s electability.

the link is here!

If true, this mean Hillary is a shoe in.

Stalled at the top, according to the polls of likely primary voters.

Those people are like the Pharisees, pointing at the flaws of someone else as they ignore their own fallability (and no, I am not in any way comparing Rudy to Christ). Those who so proclaim are the most self-righteous, stiff-necked, RINO's there are.

The standards they set for their candidates are so high that even Ronald Reagan would be rejected by them today.

Duncan Hunter is a great American, a great Congressman, and a great Conservative. Unfortunately he has the electability of Pat Buchannan or Bill Buckley, that is to say none at all.

I hate to break it to you guys, but Rudy, perhaps Romney (if he clearly and consisely addresses the Mormon issue), and possibly Mike Huckabee are the only people running who stand a chance of being elected in a national election.

Third party efforts will only guarantee the election of the most extreme socialist/communist congress and president in history.

It's is rapidly approaching a time where all of you "never vote for RudyMcRomney" folks are going to have to make a serious decision, capitalism or socialism, maximum taxation or supply side, pro-business, low tax fiscal conservatives. Hard-headed dogmatic dedication to your ideals will not excuse you from bearing the blame if Hillary is our next president.

I’d vote for Romney, and if need be McCain. Never Rudy911.

Here’s an idea: YOU give up YOUR hard-headed dogmatic dedication to YOUR ideals that you mentioned. I’m not giving mine up. Or perhaps I (you) ask too much, in retrospect?
