A Mormon in the Oval Office?
Washington Post ^ | October 4, 2007 | Robert Novak

Posted on 10/04/2007 9:40:06 AM PDT by greyfoxx39

When Mitt Romney appeared last week (via closed circuit from California) before the Council of Retired Chief Executives meeting in Washington, he faced kindred souls: rich Republicans who had managed big enterprises. Yet the second question from the audience was whether Romney's Mormon faith was hurting his quest for the Republican presidential nomination. He replied that about the only people who brought up his religion were members of the media, an answer that simply is untrue.

Romney is asked about Mormonism wherever he goes. In my travels, I find his religious preference cited everywhere as the source of opposition to his candidacy. His response to the former chief executives that only reporters care about this issue sounded like a politician's tired evasion. Romney was either too obtuse to appreciate his problem or was stalling because he had not determined how to deal with it. Contact with his advisers indicates that it's the latter.

Nope, I would vote for a Jew. They believe in God, the God of Abraham and Moses.

BTW, If someone who was Jewish came forward with accusations like the ones I have against Mormonism, I would listen. Why don’t you? Do you want to blindly believe that Mormons are better than the rest of us?

Please get over the idea that it is wrong to question someones belief. You’ve fallen into the ungodly trap of political correctness....and you say you are a conservative. Amazing!

What if he were a Muslim

Apples and cauliflower comparison. There is, as we all know, a vast difference between a fringe Christian religion and one that endorses such things as murder, lying, oppression, torture and slavery as Islam does.

If evangelicals do NOT support the Republican candidate, they guarantee the further dissolution of the family during another Clinton presidency, the incremental institutionalization of socialized medicine, the deepening of abortion "rights" through lifetime judicial appointments, and a toehold for Sharia law and the greater entrenchment of Islam in the US.

It's time to think strategically about this election. The Hillary camp sure is, daily. It is a tipping point in American history.

I would rather have a President with a different take on Christianity than a manipulative micro-managing "Christian" who construes it as her divine mission to tell everyone else how they have to live.

I, like you, probably have some doctrinal differences with certain denominations that would not prevent me from voting for them for public office.

Yes. While I do not support Romney, I consider him a better candidate than Giuliani, who like me is Catholic.

Since MHGinTN brought you into this discussion, I would like to point out that there has been a concerted effort by colorcountry; FastCoyote; MHGinTN; Pan_Yans Wife; svcw; Elsie; Colofornian; and GreyFoxx39; (I got the list from post #3) to attack the Mormon Religion every time Mitt Romney is mentioned.

17 It no sooner appeared than I found myself adelivered from the enemy which held me bound. When the light rested upon me I bsaw two cPersonages, whose brightness and dglory defy all description, estanding above me in the air. One of them spake unto me, calling me by name and said, pointing to the other—This is My fBeloved gSon. Hear Him!
18 My object in going to ainquire of the Lord was to know which of all the sects was right, that I might know which to join. No sooner, therefore, did I get possession of myself, so as to be able to speak, than I asked the Personages who stood above me in the light, which of all the sects was right (for at this time it had never entered into my heart that all were wrong)—and which I should join.
19 I was answered that I must join none of them, for they were all awrong; and the Personage who addressed me said that all their creeds were an abomination in his sight; that those bprofessors were all ccorrupt; that: “they ddraw near to me with their lips, but their ehearts are far from me, they teach for doctrines the fcommandments of men, having a form of godliness, but they deny the gpower thereof.”
20 He again forbade me to join with any of them; and many other things did he say unto me, which I cannot write at this time. When I came to myself again, I found myself alying on my back, looking up into heaven. When the light had departed, I had no strength; but soon recovering in some degree, I went home. And as I leaned up to the fireplace, bmother inquired what the matter was. I replied, “Never mind, all is well—I am well enough off.” I then said to my mother, “I have learned for myself that Presbyterianism is not true.”

Another thing that you seem to forget is right now we are in the process of determining which candidate we send to face Hillary. We wish to send the strongest man we have, while selecting the candidate that reflects our political ideals.

Romney is not that candidate. It is obvious he is fatally flawed. Not only is he a pandering, conservative-come-lately, flip-flopper, but he espouses a religious belief that has at its very heart a display of belief that all other Christianity is wrong, and not of God.

Why are you fighting so hard to send THAT flawed candidate to face Hillary. There are better men running than Guilianni and Romney. Pick one, perhaps Thompson, or Hunter or Huckabee, or McCain. YES, I happen to think McCain is better than Romney. At least he hasn’t tried to fool us about his liberal beliefs, we know what they are upfront.

Mormonism itself teaches its adherants to pander, to answer only the “right” question, to obsfucate, hide and misrepresent. Why would you send a man who has demonstrated these traits to face Hillary?

We also have Prophets and Apostles, just as the New Testament outlines.

1 Corinthians 12:28
And in the church God has appointed first of all apostles, second prophets, third teachers, then workers of miracles, also those having gifts of healing, those able to help others, those with gifts of administration, and those speaking in different kinds of tongues.

Got these; too?

FreeRepublic should be reserved for thoughtful debate.

I guess when those EX-Mormons started to THINK, then they saw the Truth and left the LDS organization behind.

Unto you it is given to know the mystery of the kingdom of God:

And just what IS that MYSTERY???

Is it something that's going to show up in the 1830's??

Apparently not:

Ephesians 3

 1.  For this reason I, Paul, the prisoner of Christ Jesus for the sake of you Gentiles--
 2.  Surely you have heard about the administration of God's grace that was given to me for you,
 3.  that is, the mystery made known to me by revelation, as I have already written briefly.
 4.  In reading this, then, you will be able to understand my insight into the mystery of Christ,
 5.  which was not made known to men in other generations as it has now been revealed by the Spirit to God's holy apostles and prophets.
 6.  This mystery is that through the gospel the Gentiles are heirs together with Israel, members together of one body, and sharers together in the promise in Christ Jesus.

You are just as ignorant as the rest of them.

Hopefully not...

Maybe someday your Church could help you find some peace and come to terms with your place in determining the fitness of other Churches and/or the disposition of the souls other than your own.

It's too bad that the headquarters in SLC don't like them RLDS folks and REALLY hate the people in Colorado City that CLAIM to be the TRUE Mormons!

So what do you do to lighten up your miserable, pathetic existence?

Go to FR and have LDS members tell me how misled I am??
