He was talking of meritocracy rather than aristocracy of birth. Equality and Justice cannot be combined in a free society.

Equality of opportunity and equality of outcome are very different. We should strive for equal opportunities for equally able people we should not strive for equal outcomes for those of differing abilities.
No argument from me. You stated it explicitly. I was trying to state it implicitly. Your words were more clear than mine.
Adam's, as were most of the Founding Fathers, anti-democracy, which they likened to mob rule.
That is why the nation is a Republic, not a democracy.
This does not negate what the Declaration stated, which was that all men have the same God-given rights of life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness, but no guarantee of obtaining that happiness.
