Colorado State University is still experiencing the fallout from a profane editorial that ran in the college's student newspaper two weeks ago.
CSU police investigated a threat that was called into The Rocky Mountain Collegian last week. Advertising in the newspaper and other student- run media organizations remains down. And at least one parent of a CSU student might withdraw her daughter from the school.
"It's true. We are reconsidering schools," said Casper resident Cathy Ide, whose daughter, Holly Loucks, is a sophomore construction management major.
The school's alumni relations and admissions offices have also received calls and e-mails concerning the editorial, but spokeswoman Dell Rae Moellenberg said it's too early to assess the overall impact.

The editor shouldn’t be fired. Let him and the paper speak freely! and then let the chips fall where they may.
The ad revenues dwindling and alumni funds dwindling and enrollment diminishing offers counter-speech enough.
.
The Editor should be fired, if for nothing else, a lack of a proper and sufficient vocabulary to express himself.
Looks like those young little commies are getting a good education in Capitalism!
I still want to know how one can blame BUSH for the tasing of a left-wing student asking far-left questions of a left-liberal US Senator at a hugely left-leaning college campus.
It is amazing that these lefties blame everything on Bush.
Must be part of their agenda : no personal responsibility.
Because Bush is simultaneously a clueless idiot and a criminal mastermind who’s setting up a totalitarian fascist state so that he can cancel the 2008 elections and remain in power for life.
The taser attack on that poor defenseless citizen was shrewdly carried out at a Kerry speech so no one would suspect that Bush was behind it. It took those brilliant kids at Colorado to cut through the deception and reveal that this was a test run for Bush’s plans for dictatorship. Of course, none of this negates the fact that Bush is still an idiot.
Any editor of any paper that lets profanity (or even masked profanity) appear in its headlines should be ousted. It’s unprofessional to say the least.
The idiocy and juvenile nature of the democRATs is plain for all to see. I think it might be wise to see who advertises in this paper and let them know they support this childishness, and we do not support them. Always hit back, as our republican politicians do nothing but play nice with these devils.
Free speech to a college newspaper editor is like an endless supply of candy to a five-year-old. Too often, both will partake of the sweets now and pay the consequences later.
It’s a lesson Colorado State University officials are reminded of this week as they deal with the public furor erupting after staff at the school’s student newspaper, the Rocky Mountain Collegian, let their thoughts concerning President Bush and the state of American civil liberties be known on the editorial page.
Specifically, the paper’s September 21st editorial page contained a four word editorial. “Taser this. . . F*$% Bush,” it read.

yes
Always hit back, as our republican politicians do nothing but play nice with these devils.
there are plenty of other means to discuss free speech. But, McSwane and the Collegian chose an immature and irresponsible way to get attentionthe candy they crave. They also assumed their readers weren’t sophisticated enough to engage in a legitimate dialogue on a very important political issue.
Like a child howling in a candy store to get what he wants, the Collegian substituted a four letter word for genuine political discourse. All for attention. If only McSwane had stepped back for a moment to acknowledge not just his freedoms as an Americanbut also his ethical obligations as a newspaper editor.
According to the code of ethics espoused by the Society of Professional Journalists, “gathering and reporting information may cause harm or discomfort,” but this doesn’t mean the “pursuit of the news (serves as) a license for arrogance.” Journalists are, therefore, advised to “show good taste.”
By printing their juvenile editorial, McSwane and his staff irresponsibly violated this ethos.

Great post ;-)
Exactly.

I don't agree with the editorial, which was in bad taste, but this is ridiculous. What a nation of crybabies we've become.
The editor's lack of intelligence indicated by his meager vocabulary embarrasses me as a CSU alumni.

You may call us a Nation of Crybabies but why should we as a nation condone and excuse such inexcusable behavior? I for one will not.
