Giuliani claims Christian support
Politico ^ | 3 October 2007 | Mike Allen and J. Martin

MANCHESTER, N.H. — Facing a barrage of questions about his appeal to conservative voters, former New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani claimed Wednesday that religious conservatives will embrace him because at least they know where he stands.

...Giuliani’s claim about his appeal to religious conservatives includes the implicit acknowledgment that he is not one of them. And that points to Giuliani’s dilemma in trying to appeal to the Republican Party’s base without drawing fire for pandering.

Indeed, Giuliani refused to accept the label of “effectively pro-life,” which is how a key supporter, Rep. Pete Sessions (R-Texas), referred to the former mayor in an interview this week with CBN’s David Brody.

Asked if he embraces that label, Giuliani chuckled and said: “No. I think I’ve explained my position on that about as clearly as I can, about as often as I can. If people want to put labels on it, they can put labels on it.”

Giuliani’s remarks followed threats by several prominent social conservatives to support a third-party candidate if he wins the Republican presidential nomination.

“Maybe people of faith can respect someone who’s honest with them,” Giuliani said as a huge crush of reporters jostled for position with their microphones and tape recorders. “With me, you know what you’re going to get. I mean, I explain to you who I am. I tell you who I am. You can figure out the areas you agree, the areas you disagree. It’s not like five different positions on every issue.”

Insofar as the Lord Jesus Christ enjoins His disciples to pray for their enemies . . .

Giuliani certainly has my support. Anybody does who will defeat the worthless, depraved, mendacious, self-serving anti-American Democrats.

If that's your criteria, why are you supporting Rudy?

He hasn't proven that he can do any such thing. To the contrary - when given an opportunity to run against Hillary!, he ran away with his tail between his legs.

Besides, if "he might win" is the best you can say about a candidate, he doesn't deserve your vote.

Rudith explicitly denies he is pro-life. Or even "effectively pro-life".

What a piece of human garbage.

Let's test that.

A boy comes to my house to pick up my daughter on a Saturday night. He walks in and says, "I know you'll disagree with me on this, but I'm going to screw the heck out of your daughter tonight. I believe in being straight with parents, and at least know you know what you're getting and we can be mutually respectful. In fact, I'm telling you this because I respect you so much, and because I have better character than all the other boys she could be dating."

Anybody think that guy's leaving my house with my daughter on his arm because he respects me so much? He'll be lucky to leave my house with his front teeth still in his mouth.

Nice try, Rudy.

If that's the criteria by which we should choose our candidate, we might as well vote for Michael Moore.

I can't figure out whether Rudy's more nuts than putz.

Catholic-bashing is for petty little double-minded men. Consider that a rebuke from a brother rather than an insult.

That's nice and all, but how exactly do you think that a gungrabbing pro-abortionist extremist from New York is the best shoice to beat a gungrabbing pro-abortionist extremist from New York?

Though I am 100% against Giuliani, I am tired of hearing this slander. The man had cancer.

He must be kidding. He is an adultering, parade his mistress around, divorce his wife, marry his mistress, baby sucking out of the womb loser who just happened to be mayor during a national crisis.

This doesn’t make him any more worthy to be the President than it does that guy who was mayor of New Orleans during Katrina.

As a Christian, Giuliani couldn’t pay me to vote for him. I don’t trust the character of any man who cheats on his wife and acts as though it’s a non issue.

Newt did the same thing.

I would just as well see Hillary in office than this pitiful shell of a man.

I’m sure Rudy has some “Christians” supporting him. The same “Christians” who see nothing wrong with homosexual Bishops and abortion.

How on earth can he claim Christian support when he’s a Catholic?

He's only claiming to be Catholic.

So you'd vote for a liberal to defeat a liberal? How very ineffective.

Can’t wait to see this clown crash and burn in the primaries. Then he’ll whine that the “far right” is in charge of the GOP.

Many of the posters on this thread are utterly charming. One wonders how they will fare when they first insult and destroy the reputation of other Primary Candidate Republicans and then come back and say they want their support in the general election.

The “Stop Rudy” ping list!

E-mail/ping me if you want on/off the list! SPREAD THE WORD!!!

Rudy911 ruins the triangulation again by denying the bullcrap Sessions was trying to sell us. The surrogate strategy fals apart again.

Sessions is only losing his own credibility, not giving Rudy911 more.
