Are We Headed For The Write-In Coup?......

.........I saw a catch in last Friday's (September 21st) announcement from York County Commissioners Lori Mitrick and Doug Kilgore about their backing out of eminent domain at Lauxmont Farms.

The truth is that there are many catches.

The legality of their action is in doubt and the Kohr family is challenging in court. They may insist the county take 187 acres of the 411 acres they sought and or compensate them in some way for keeping their land off the market for several years.

In fact a judge may give Mitrick and Kilgore exactly what they want by ruling their decision to withdraw is invalid. This may be a legal trick to get what they want when it looks like they don't want it.

ARE THE PEOPLE OF YORK COUNTY BEING FOOLED INTO BELIEVING THAT EMINENT DOMAIN IS NO LONGER AN ISSUE SO A 'WRITE-IN' CAMPAIGN CAN BE EMPLOYED AGAINST THE ANTI-EMINENT DOMAIN CANDIDATES ON THE BALLOT?

Last week's announcement also appears to have been the cue for a political attack to being on Commissioner Steve Chronister and the other candidates who beat Mitrick and Kilgore in the primary election.

It does appear that an attack campaign is under way on Republican Chronister and on other candidates like his cousin Democrat Doug Hoke.

The threat of a Mitrick-Kilgore write-in campaign for the fall election has been hanging for several months but Doug Kilgore made the threat even more interesting this week by speaking of other people who may become write-in candidates. He would not give any details.

So it appears that a coup is being attempted against the will of the voters expressed in the May primary by the elite group of people who support eminent domain at Lauxmont Farms and want to punish Steve Chronister for opposing it......

The Mitrick-Kilgore-"York Daily Record" editorial board have chipped in with attacks on the Kohr family for challenging their withdrawl from this mess without compensating the family for the distress caused by the eminent domain mess.

They've always demonized the victims and the newspaper has now turned to demonizing the incumbent commissioner who won the Republican primary Steve Chronister.

They're hitting him because he's in the real estate business and deals with developers.

These anti-development hypocrites have no problem with people's land being taken for government use like this so-called "heritage park" at Lauxmont, but would raise a storm if someone wanted to build a Wal-Mart there.

It looks like the eminent domain crowd are going nasty in the fall election for county commissioners and it will get even nastier closer to the election in York County,PA.

I don’t know anything about this issue, but I sure know hyperbole when I see it.

Politics is a dirty business conducted by people who want their side to win. Manipulation, coercion, media savvy, and strongarming are called politics. Rolling in the mud and smearing other people is called politics. Using the system in unusual ways to get what you want is called politics.

A coup is the forced overthrow of a government by another group. I don’t see anything here about guns blazing, deaths in the night by goon squads, torture, disappearances, closing media outlets, martial law, cancelled elections, one-party rule, or military juntas. (Well, maybe one-party rule if we’re talking about a traditionally Democrat area...)

My point is that calling this problem a coup makes you sound overemotional and irrational. Calm down. Identify the problem. Coldly and carefully gut your opposition. Never give up. Play to win. Revenge is a dish best served cold (I learned that on “Star Trek”).

Maybe I should put it this way. Remember those “Think globally, act locally” bumper stickers? How’s this...

“Think conservative, respond politically like a liberal.”

I sure would like that see the Republicans try it, just for a while.
