SENATE DEMOCRATS CONDEMN LIMBAUGH’S ATTACK ON OUR TROOPS
The Drudge Report ^ | Oct 2, 2007 | Drudge

Posted on 10/02/2007 4:20:59 PM PDT by RDTF

Washington, DC—Senate Democrats today sent the following letter to Mark P. Mays, CEO of Clear Channel Communications, calling on him to publicly repudiate Rush Limbaugh’s characterization of troops who speak out against the Iraq war as “phony soldiers.” Despite recent Republican comments condemning verbal attacks on our troops, when given the opportunity to join us in signing this letter, not a single one did so.

The text of the letter is below and attached:

October 2, 2007

Mr. Mark P. Mays CEO, Clear Channel Communications Inc. 200 East Basse Road San Antonio, TX 78209

Dear Mr. Mays,

At the time we sign this letter, 3,808 American soldiers have been killed in Iraq, and another 28,009 have been wounded. 160,000 others awoke this morning on foreign sand, far from home, to face the danger and uncertainty of another day at war.

Although Americans of goodwill debate the merits of this war, we can all agree that those who serve with such great courage deserve our deepest respect and gratitude. That is why Rush Limbaugh’s recent characterization of troops who oppose the war as “phony soldiers” is such an outrage.

Our troops are fighting and dying to bring to others the freedoms that many take for granted. It is unconscionable that Mr. Limbaugh would criticize them for exercising the fundamentally American right to free speech. Mr. Limbaugh has made outrageous remarks before, but this affront to our soldiers is beyond the pale.

The military, like any community within the United States, includes members both for and against the war. Senior generals, such as General John Batiste and Paul Eaton, have come out against the war while others have publicly supported it. A December 2006 poll conducted by the Military Times found just 35 percent of service members approved of President Bush’s handling of the war in Iraq, compared to 42 percent who disapproved. From this figure alone, it is clear that Mr. Limbaugh’s insult is directed at thousands of American service members.

Active and retired members of our armed forces have a unique perspective on the war and offer a valuable contribution to our national debate. In August, seven soldiers wrote an op-ed expressing their concern with the current strategy in Iraq. Tragically, since then, two of those seven soldiers have made the ultimate sacrifice in Iraq.

Thousands of active troops and veterans were subjected to Mr. Limbaugh’s unpatriotic and indefensible comments on your broadcast. We trust you will agree that not a single one of our sons, daughters, neighbors and friends serving overseas is a “phony soldier.” We call on you to publicly repudiate these comments that call into question their service and sacrifice and to ask Mr. Limbaugh to apologize for his comments.

Sincerely,

Senator Harry Reid, Majority Leader Senator Richard Durbin, Assistant Majority Leader Senator Charles Schumer, Vice Chairman, Democratic Conference Senator Patty Murray, Secretary, Democratic Conference Senator Daniel Akaka Senator Max Baucus Senator Joseph Biden Senator Barbara Boxer Senator Sherrod Brown Senator Robert Byrd Senator Benjamin Cardin Senator Tom Carper Senator Bob Casey Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton Senator Kent Conrad Senator Christopher Dodd Senator Byron Dorgan Senator Dianne Feinstein Senator Tom Harkin Senator Daniel Inouye Senator Edward M. Kennedy Senator John Kerry Senator Amy Klobuchar Senator Mary Landrieu Senator Frank Lautenberg Senator Patrick Leahy Senator Carl Levin Senator Blanche Lincoln Senator Bob Menendez Senator Barbara Mikulski Senator Bill Nelson Senator Barack Obama Senator Jack Reed Senator Jay Rockefeller Senator Ken Salazar Senator Bernie Sanders Senator Debbie Stabenow Senator Jon Tester Senator Jim Webb Senator Sheldon Whitehouse Senator Ron Wyden

Unbelievable.

As I read that list.....that Rogue’s Gallery of so-called national “leaders”.......it literally struck me just how despicable a group of slimebag traitors they really are; each and every one of them. Not a redeeming person in the bunch. All walking filth.

Hope you are proud, Democrats. Revel in your idiocy, electing such slime.

I am fed up too. I am sick of this pathetic senate. The democrats fight like hell to attack anyone moveon.org tells them to, take the enemy's side in the war, and have to resort to lies to attack Rush. The US senate is a disgrace. They are a vile group self serving snakes that will destroy liberty and freedom while the left cheers.

I dont see the republican senators standing up for Rush, then again the MSM wouldnt cover it if they did speak out.

TERM LIMITS!!! TERM LIMITS!! TERM LIMITS !!

Its going to be a long night writing all these lying phony pompous idiots.

That screed reads like a woman wrote it. Not that there’s anything wrong with that, of course. I’m a woman.

I was thinking more like a 9 year old.........

Yes Brit just touched on it. I was very disappointed with the whole segment.

As for John Gibson, He had Johnah Goldberg calling the Democrats “Were Wolves” needing to feed at the full moon!
and the dems don’t want to feed on Charlie Gibson and ABC but Rush Limbaugh. Don’t you just Love it???
I taped the show!
Gibson covers everything including Macbeth’s Phoney Soldier and Rush referring to him.

I have to agree—looks like Drudge received it in email or fax and posted it exactly the way he got it:

Wonder why the author didn’t bother to put their name on it?
Could it have come from Phoney Patriot Dingy Harry himself?

It is my firm belief that the current batch of Democrats in congress - many of them at least - are absolutely, un-American. I do in fact question their patriotism, not to mention their integrity. This is not because they oppose the Iraq front in the war on terror, but because of their devious and deceptive tactics in our political arena and their demeaning of the offices they hold by attacking private citizens with whom they disagree – and on trumped-up charges, with an anti-American press to help! I have never seen the likes of these people in my lifetime (I’m in my 50’s). Power at any cost is their motto.

I have absolutely no respect – zero – for the likes of Hillary Clinton, Harry Reid, Pelosi, Tom Harkin, and many others who ascribe to the far-left’s completely socialist, mind-controlling agenda. I say this not because of their differing views – that‘s fine to have differing views, but their tactics when they can’t win in the arena of ideas are breathtakingly despicable.

God help us with these sleaze merchants and their Soros-funded hate machine running our government! I can honestly say that I have never been this angry at anything political as I am at these worthless, and I do mean worthless, pieces of human debris! They can all burn in Hades as far as I’m concerned. Sorry for the rant, but these people really, truly make me sick to my stomach!

Jag!

What else would you expect from the New Left dominated Rat Party (formerly the traditional, patriotic Democratic Party)? To lie is their routine. It's what they do.

They're MorOn.org in nice suits.

They picked the wrong fight. Poor bastards.

Not that I have any respect for Bayh, but perhaps not all the rats in the Senate agree with this silly, stupid letter.

He's probably gonna be Hillary's Veep choice. He knows Rush is VERY popular here in IN. He's disguised his Leftist leanings for years, and can't afford to show his true colors just yet.

He's been groomed for POTUS since Daddy Birch sprouted his first Wood.

The same baffoons who refused to condemn the Betray Us Ad, signed the condemnation of calling Phony Soldiers Phony Soldiers. Which BTW was first reported on ABC.

True, but the Mays’ could pull his syndication of they were pressured enough, could they not? He has to ‘report’ to them, so to speak, to stay on the air? Is Rush a partner in Clear Channel?

I have a different view of the Republicans.

I think they know Rush is quite capable of taking care of him self.
I would hope they will do SENATE business and leave the slime, scum, dirt, filth, lying, stupid comments cling to the Democrats as the Democrats are so good at doing all by themselves.

A very weak reply, IMO. He says that he listened to the transcript but couldn’t tell who Rush was referring to. How lame is that?

Why is everybody afraid of these Democrats? If that was the best Mays could do, he shouldn’t even have bothered.
