Slavery without a doubt was the worst mistake this country ever made. No other aspect of our history has had such a negative impact on this country, from start to now. While there is much to be thankful for from former slaves, the crime, culture differenence and injection of race into every single disagreement between black and white has made any contributions from former slaves not worth the pain. Those who bash America for its slave holding past actually hate America. They should have the foresight to understand that the fallout of slavery will eventually destroy this country and that should make them happy.

“Slavery without a doubt was the worst mistake this country ever made”

Every country and civilization and culture has/had slaves. Only America is suppose to be guilty of it.

I am not, my ancestors worked to free slaves and I never had one so I feel no guilt.

The only thing worse than the 200 years of slavery that occurred in this country a century and a half ago is the fifty year destruction of the black family unit brought about jointly by the gravey train of LBJ's "Great Society" and by young black men who treat their women like "ho's", won't learn to speak clear english, dismiss education and business success as being "too white", and who excuse every one of their bad life choices as being the responsibility of "The Man."

The thing is that slavery was here long before this country was here. This piece of land was not the USA until 1776 or 1789; Take your choice. And this country abolished it in less than 100 years. In the context of history, that’s a very short time.

Slavery was inevitable in the western hemisphere's pre-Industrial societies, for the soil was rich, the distances vast, and laborers few and of uncertain dependably.

After all, people did not immigrate to the New World for the chance to work as another man's field hand.

While your observation is undoubtedly true, there is more to the story. A sin always gives the opposition a weapon, and as the full text of the Medved article makes clear, the US moved swiftly to wipe out slavery, and later, Jim Crow (although not fast enough, but, in comparison with other nations, faster than any other nation).

The more I read, however, the more I see that the fight of good vs. evil has been weaponized on the left by any transgression whatsoever on the right. Organized socialism and communism have been behind not only so many of our social ills, but also behind the perception of our motives, trumpeted in the press, and the calumny of false "solutions."

I recommend to any of you interested in our current dilemma to get a copy of a long out-of-print book entitled The Fabian Freeway by Rose L. Martin. It is a history of the socialist movement within the United States and Europe. As you can see, the Fabian Society, of which Tony Blair is a member, long ago succeeded in socializing Europe. This evil of anti-Christian social engineering has made Europe easy pickings for Muslim infiltration and overthrow.

We really must understand that the left wing will say anything and tell any lie and use any "shame, shame" device to weaken the right, the open, the transparent and the truthful history and institutions in this country.

Aw, c'mon. There ain't no culture difference. American Blacks are just rednecks with melanin.

The idea that rural Southern whites and rural Southern Blacks are so different was invented by ole massa to justify slavery and to play Blacks and poor whites against each other. Of course, nowadays it's the liberals who insist that emotional worship services are beautiful when engaged in by poor Blacks but stupid and embarrassing when engaged in by poor whites.
