Saturday 29th September 2007

Dear Family and Friends, Standing outside over yet another smoky fire late one afternoon this week, a Go-Away bird chastised me from a nearby tree. I'm sure this Grey Lourie is as fed up of me intruding into its territory as I am of being there - trying to get a hot meal for supper. For five of the last six days the electricity has gone off before 5 in the morning and only come back 16 or 17 hours later a little before midnight. "Go Away! Go Away!" the Grey Lourie called out repeatedly as my eyes streamed from the smoke and I stirred my little pot. My hair and clothes stink of smoke, fingers are yellow and sooty but this is what we've all been reduced to in Zimbabwe. Our government don't talk about the power cuts anymore and don't even try and feed us with lame excuses about how the power is being used to irrigate non-existent crops. We all know it's not true and the proof is there in the empty fields for all to see.

Maybe she can’t get out. I just vividly remember the stories of the carnage from the Rhodesians who did get out. They lost children in fights with the black Africans.

Some here wonder if Cathy Buckle really exists.I,for one, have no idea. Many have wondered out loud why the heck she didn't get out of Zimbabwe years ago.One obvious reason is that maybe she has nowhere to go.Maybe she doesn't qualify for British citizenship as,I suspect, many who lived at one time in Zim did.

The same thing happened in Hong Kong and Macau before the handovers in the 90's.There was a mad dash by native Chinese people living there to get a British passport (Hong Kong) or a Portuguese passport (Macau). Those who succeeded either left when they got their passport or stayed knowing that if things got bad they had a safe haven waiting (Europe).

Others have said she welcomed mugabe originally. A good liberal who was all for “socialism with an African face” (I think that is how it was sold to people long ago)

I spent a couple of months in Harare in 1985. Even then, the Rhodesians were reading the handwriting on the wall and were making plans to liquidate their assets there and getting out while they were able. Apparently Cathy Buckle didn't and is now paying the price.

When we were there, the Rhodies asked us to bring in Krugerrands from Johannesburg which they would buy with their Z$ from people who were coming there on TDY. Krugerrands even then were significantly more valuable than the Z$.

If the Zims were still under greedy, despotic, undemocratic colonial rule I imagine they'd all be living comparatively high off the goat after all these years since "independence".

At the minimum, they'd be eating.

Just think, the commie Biship Tutu received a Nobel Peace Prize for freeing his people from colonial rule. He should receive another one for freeing his people from the nasty habits of eating and working.

I believe that there IS a Cathy Buckle, whether that's her real name of not. Most events in history, whether they be positive, tragic or catastrophic have those who keep histories, chronicles or diaries. It's in their genes and they bow to the master which is their muse.

This Cathy writes well and descriptively. The innate urge of writers is for folks to read their output.....sometimes they go to great lengths or through great danger to get their stories out to be read.

I see no personal gain for this woman to be writing about what she sees and experiences. I'll give her the benefit of any doubt about her intentions.

One doesn't have to be a liberal to be human or humanitarian. Perhaps her ideologies have changed after viewing the horrors she's viewing every day.

My heart goes out to these poor people at the mercy of uneducated, vicious, greedy, home-grown communists and fascists that are in total control of this disintergrating country and its hapless folks.

I'll bet freepers are among the comparatively few who know about the conditions now after reading this. Such education is vital for us and for other Americans, especially those who think "nothing bad can happen here".

Actually, that photo is of another Cathy Buckle, a quilter and seemstress in Canada, who died in January. She is posing in one of the dresses she made there. You need to be careful when grabbing the first photo which shows up in a GOOGLE image source, as many people can share the same name.

This is the source of the picture which someone claims was the Zimbabwe Cathy Buckle, but is clearly not:

Bummer. “Cathy Buckle” might be her nomme de guerre, a good idea when criticizing the type of people she’s going after. Whistleblowers in her circumstances often end up disappeared.

Their money must be worthless if it cost 1.2 million for a prescription...

I wonder where the U.S. Congressional Black Caucus is on this, well, no I do not wonder. They are hiding.

I'm not sure "hiding" quite expresses how much contempt they have earned, Dash.

I admit I am not sure what better word reveals their behavior in a sound bite. Conveniently silent maybe says it better. Here is why.

One is not allowed in the Congressional Black Caucus if one is not deemed "Progressive." But when we strip away the nice sounding label of "Progressive" from those who claim it, what do we discover? Some time soon it will become common knowledge that a "Progressive" is one who favors the progress of the Postmodernists retrograde agenda that aims to thwart human advancement.

Such "progressives" think it is progress when they see the once successful food exporting breadbasket Zimbabwe now turned into a basket case of starving victims of a "mad" regime.

Where reports of the gradual starvation of millions has become an international death watch, I am charging that the Congressional Black Caucus, like all "progressives," have rationalized it to be sad but also a partial solution to the human contribution to global warming (because millions of CO2 sources will cease exhaling!).

Negative population growth by less than ideal means is still their sort of progress, see? Destruction of productivity that once sustained human lives is their sort of progress too, see? I charge that Postmodern Progressives have signed onto the sort of "human concern" that was best expressed by the great general of their movement before they were known as "Greens:" "A single death is a tragedy; a million deaths are merely a statistic."

Given all the Global Warming, anti-natal, anti-progress, anti-culture nonsense that "Progressives" have signed on to, I don't think that the Congressional Black Caucus or any other "Progressive" group can really be said to be "hiding."

I hope someone can come up with a better sound bite than "hiding" or "conveniently silent" to describe the behavior of those we are declaiming.
