High court lets Alabama sex-toy ban stand

MONTGOMERY, Ala. — The U.S. Supreme Court declined today to hear a challenge to Alabama's ban on the sale of sex toys, ending a nine-year legal battle and sending a warning to store owners to clean off their shelves. An adult-store owner had asked the justices to throw out the law as an unconstitutional intrusion into the privacy of the bedroom. But the Supreme Court declined to hear the appeal, leaving intact a lower court ruling that upheld the law. Sherri Williams, owner of Pleasures stores in Huntsville and Decatur, said she was disappointed, but plans to sue again on First Amendment free speech grounds. "My motto has been they are going to have to pry this vibrator from my cold, dead hand. I refuse to give up," she said.

Free Republic is not a sex chat site, it’s a conservative political site.

That makes sense to me.

Gerbils, top-loading washing machines, shower massagers, cucumbers, chocolate sauce, silk ties -- all that is cute and clean and healthy and good and decent in America.

impossible.

I build those. I also build 4cyl.

160 from a vtwin is impossible unless you have some sort of forced aspiration. Did those numbers come from a dyno?

I am not knocking your ride, but somebody done told you wrong.....

I work in a small rural town that happens to be on an interstate. Some national chain of Adult XXX stores bought some property and low and behold we have a hugh high sign welcoming people to our little town advertising XXX Adult STore. It is disgusting. It needs to be somewhere else. Alot of people and I am one of them would not stop and get even gas at such a exit.

Then the market will decide, and the shop will go out of business.

Sounds like your real problem is with the advertising, which is the domain of your local zoning board.

It’s like H.L Mencken said: Puritanism is the haunting fear that someone, somewhere, might be having fun.

I’m sick of the “Free Republic is a political website” argument. Yeah, we know that, we get it already. So, why don’t they just remove the General/Chat and Smoky Backroom forums and be done with it? Let’s stick to just politics then, if people aren’t allowed to talk about anything else here.

At least on the threads that are fun you have people making friends and laughing together rather than ripping each other apart because they don’t like tattoos, a religion, creation v. evolution or anything else they so judgmentally disagree with.

Is it primarily a political website? indeed it is. But heaven forbid someone actually try to lighten up a little.

Because she likes sex she is a whore? More dark ages thinking....go to Afghanistan with that s*it!!!

Dark ages is right. "Female sexuality is disgusting; vibrators and dildoes, ew! Why can't they just go get a man?" Meanwhile, sales of lotion, kleenex, and men's magazines continue unabated and without comment.

I guess the only real losers are Alabama business owners and the state itself. Business will shift to the internet, from which Alabama cannot collect taxes. The USPS and private delivery companies, along with internet merchants and plain brown packaging manufacturers, will profit from this.

Good question. You might want to ask a Mod. If it were up to me, it might not be, at least not in its present state.
