Senator Barack Obama will propose on Tuesday setting a goal of eliminating all nuclear weapons in the world, saying the United States should greatly reduce its stockpiles to lower the threat of nuclear terrorism, aides say.

It’s worse than that. Some might feel that eliminating nuclear weapons would “obviously” be a good thing. The reality is it’d be stupid, even if it were possible to verify that no country anywhere in the (very large) world is secretly manufacturing them. BTW, there’s a very real possibility that enrichment equipment could become smaller and more concealable, which would surely make things crazier.

At any rate, even if nuclear weapons could be eliminated, why would we want to? They’ve prevented world war for over 60 years now, why mess with a good thing? Plus the “good guys” have the largest, most reliable stockpile. ;-)
