MONTEBELLO - A city commissioner was sentenced Thursday to four years probation for his fourth drunken-driving conviction.

David Miranda, 43, was appointed to his position as civil service commissioner in March 2005. He also works for the Montebello Unified School District as a job developer, helping high school graduates find jobs.

The terms of his probation include having his driver's license suspended for two years, serving 15 days in county jail, and serving 18 months in an alcohol rehabilitation program.

The four DUIs are not the only legal trouble that Miranda has been in over the last 20 years.

He also has two convictions for driving with a suspended license, one for unlicensed driving, and one for reckless highway driving.

He also was charged with forgery and grand theft in 1993, and a misdemeanor charge of abandonment of a child in 1994.

His convictions date back to 1988, with his reckless driving charge, and continue until the last decade with a DUI in 2001, a driving with a suspended license case in 2002, and the current DUI case which began after his arrest in April last year.

You've got to love these government employees.

Not if you live in Washington state. You need to rack up 5 DUI’s before they’re even counted as a felony.

No, not in prison. A local lock up maybe.

With his criminal background of forgery, grand theft, child abandonment, reckless driving and multiple DUI arrests, driving with a suspended license....Well I am sure he deserves his generous government pension.

Boy, you've got to admire these thorough background checks they do for government employees. They don't miss anything.

David Miranda appears to have Miranda rights.

David Miranda, 43, was appointed

Tell me who was he appointed by and how can you be appointed to a position service children in school when one of your convictions is ‘abandonment of a child?”

My Brother got 18 months in Tehachapi State Prison (Calif) for 3 DUI’s in 7 years. He moved out of the State 2 weeks after release and has not had a drnk since 1995.

Of course, he was only a welder.

Guess he gets off because the school district needs him to continue to find jobs at bars and taverns for high school grads. /s

David Miranda is doing some resume-building.
So he can maybe be the next Mike Hernandez on The Los Angeles City Council.

Funny, Wikipedia makes no mention of Hernandez doing cocaine...
in his Council office.

If he were living in Alaska, he would still be in prison - no chance for #4.

Sounds like prison actually rehabilitated him. The system actually worked for once.

No, it didn’t. His last DUI was bs. His previous DUI’s were more than five years prior.

His previous criminal record was held against him. Yes, he was a criminal, did his time, and was on the up and up.

These kinds of actions by the legislature and the courts tell us one thing.

There are way too many drunks in power.
