Al Qaeda in Iraq losing thanks to concerned local citizens

“The al Qaeda that’s here is not guys … from Syria or Somalia. They are local people who grew up here,” Adgie said. “They were bad, bad teenagers who stole cars, and (with) the lure of fast money from al Qaeda … they joined al Qaeda, and they carry out al Qaeda’s bidding.”
These home-grown terrorists employed “ultra-violence” against their fellow villagers to “strike fear in their hearts,” the colonel explained. Coalition forces from the final phase of the U.S. troop surge streamed into the region earlier this summer.

I have not posted in a long time. I feel reading this particular article that it should not go unnoticed by the over all Freeper community.
Please do read it very carefully. As you read, perhaps you shall come to a similiar or same conclusion as I have.
Al Qaeda along with it's supporting factions will be eventually extinguished from Iraq. And this includes former Saddamist along with his special shock troops that swore an oath to support Saddam.
The tide is truely changing in Iraq. No longer can any group attempt to pursuade the Iraqis in any given generic grouping that the Americans and westerners (Coalition Forces) came to take them over.
To much good will emulating down from the Coalition Forces into the local, provincial, federal level Iraqi security forces in how they treat their fellow citizens, has made a lasting effect.
IMHO, this article and the highlighted ex-Saddamist Army General exemplifies what will continue to become the norm in Iraq.
The days of lawlessness and lack of responsible govererances shall come to a halt.
In short. The George W. Bush plan for Iraq shall succeed.
In conclusion. If I do not answer your comments it is not from indeferance but from lack of sleep for some 48 hours plus, and having to get up at 3:30PM to be at work at 5AM. I am sort of beat at this point. A bottle of chilled Chardonay that I received today for my 61 first birthday, sort of has keeped me going. Free Republic first, cat naps perhaps later.
Blessings to all.

Well then they aren't dedicated Hard Core and they will vanish to save their butts as they see the tide turning

Since we no longer hear the gleeful daily reports from the drive-by media about the latest “suicide bomber”, the only conclusion is that the news is good, the surge is successful.

RATs are desperate.

To comment on uncbob's comment. We have to realize the hard core insurgents are few in numbers as the country slowly recovers from a very long time of brutal rule.
Take if I may, for example, Iyad Allawi, a secular Sunni who as we all recognize was the first installed PM of Iraq.
He during the early Saddam years went along with the program, most likely with contempt for the ruling goons, and their leader to keep a job in the government, and his position in the Baathist Party.
He paid a price when he defected, once he realized things where getting totally out of hand, and his country was being ruled by a common street criminal. His scars on his neck etc., bear witness to the change of heart.
Likewise, one upon carefull examination/reflection, can see where tens of thousands of Baathist followed suit.
And the same goes for their regular military. Many have come out and made it clear they went along with the program to save their jobs, lives, and the lives of their families.
He turned a complete about face, so to speak. He did not have to risk his life these recent years to come back to Iraq to attempt to participate in rebuilding a new country based on western democratic principals.
He could have stayed in London or elsewhere.
Likewise IMHO, we shall see growing numbers of Iraqi that have for a number of often very widely different reasons say enough is enough, and recognize democracy and a nation free of sectarian killings is worth working toward.
I am not lecturing. Perhaps simply in most cases putting in writing what many of us in this juncture in time accept as the reality taking place in Iraq.
Many of us often kid about how poor widdle Nancy Pelosi or some of her side kicks and clowns like Harry Reid feel in recent times regarding the change of tide in Iraq. But think for a moment, perhaps you are all light years ahead of me on this one.
Think of how the many various factions in Iraq and throughout the ME, and the Far East must feel as they see the Iraqi people saying no to all the Islamic instigated violance in their country.
I bet UBL and Wahariri are a lot more sad in recent developments then the goon squads within the liberal far left movement.
And throw in the ex KGB and more recent FSB, for their long term goals to pit radical Islamic groups against the west, with the US in emphasis.
They are all on the lossing ticket.

No terrorist insurgency can survive without the support of the locals, once the locals go against the terrorists, it all over. Yes, victory is at hand in Iraq and it is matter of six months before it becomes clear to everyone that Al Qaeda was utterly defeated and we won the war.

I strongly agree with your assesments. They are not simply wishfull thinking but based in reality. The Iraqi population has awoken to a new day, in ever greater numbers. What some of us used to say about a given province now most probably is most everywhere in Iraq including many areas of the southern provinces.
Iraqi have news papers and watch world news. They both know the stakes as well as what could happen should they revert to past crimes of simple neglegience.
As sustainable security continues to take over, only a hard core radical type muslim would want to hold out.
They have with some dramatic success stories thus far shown how they can reach beyond tribal and sub sect barriers. I suspect this will become the norm.

Thanks for the happy birthday wishes. The reality is I simply as many here, translate what we can see happening in front of our eyes. This whole Iraqi issue could have been fully painted with positive things for at least the past year plus. Since the actions taken by our Army and Marines in al Anbar starting with Operation Matador a whole new ball game was basically formed. Things have evolved into what we now see happening, e.g. Iraqis turning against all elements of the insurgency in ever growing numbers.
