Resignation is the only course, after he accepts the resignation of each and every of the Duke 88.
Every one. No exceptions.

That’s not an apology (too many months late and on a Saturday to boot), it’s an insult.

You apologize for an honest mistake. You pay for a deliberate one.

Their knee-jerk reaction was due to extreme PC-ness, which only the most erudite liberals adhere to.

Agreed. Brodhead is trying to put the best face on this in his statement, but his complicity in railroading the students was an egregious offense. He needs to go.

I agree with you. “DUKE” should have stayed away from judgement but political correctness did not let them. Scum!

i>"Given the complexities of this case, getting the communication right would never have been easy," Brodhead said. "But the fact is that we did not get it right, causing the families to feel abandoned when they were most in need of support. This was a mistake. I take responsibility for it and I apologize for it."
What complexities? Your guilty until proven innocent, or the fact that he allowed his faculty to slander innocent students as well as allow Black panthers radicals on campus to threaten them, all before they had any facts? I would have never settled! I would have sued Duke into bancruptcy!

"Given the complexities of this case, getting the communication right would never have been easy,"How about "people are entitled to the presumption of innocence." How hard is that, really?

""Given the complexities of this case, getting the communication right would never have been easy," Brodhead said."
How difficult would it have been to say:"these young men are innocent until proven guilty"?

Uh, how much later?
Donor$ must’ve gotten the me$$age thru, there’$ no other excu$e at thi$ late hour.

Not suprisingly, this "apology" came only days after word got out that the falsely accused Lacrosse players would be suing Duke.

Too damned late Brodhead!
Resign! The alumni should force his resignation along with the 88 leftist 'teachers.'

. . . for not better supporting the men's lacrosse players . . . ???It wasn't a matter of not supporting them. It was a matter of being a willing and anxious tool to Nifong in railroading them.
Recall the one of the remedies that Denny's Restaurant was forced into following their discrimination lawsuit by a black family some years ago (who went though nothing near what these boys did) was to require every Denny's Restaurant to put their staff through a diversity and sensitivity training course.
Accordingly, Duke needs to actively and appropriately dismantle the PC climate which led to this gross miscarriage of justice and cover-up of the truth. Nothing less will do. Resignation of the Duke 88 and the President would be a mere starting point.

One of the Gang of 88 apologized for his false and hurtful comments in the infamous ad against the students. I believe the one who recanted was an engineering prof. Most of the rest of them signed up for a SECOND ad, after NiFong had been taken off the case, basically thumbing their noses at the truth and at the lacrosse players.
So, I'd say if Duke is to attempt to become an honest University, that 87 professors plus President Brodhead should be outte there.

U agree. I would make an exception for the one faculty member who a while back apologized.
Brodhead also canceled the entire lacrosse season. There was no reason for that. Subs could have easily been found. I have not heard of another case where three athletes have been accused of rape and then the college suspends the entire season. He certainly did not do it in another case where apparently a rape actually did take place.
Brodhead is a clown, has difficulty with rational thought, and lacks a sense of fairness.
