Fred Thompson has pulled to within 8 points of Mitt Romney in Iowa, and now occupies 2nd place alone in a new poll out by Newsweek. Below are the numbers from the Newsweek poll taken Sept. 26-27.
Perhaps just as significant as Fred's strong move up, is another set of figures from the Newsweek poll. They asked respondents just how strong they supported their candidate. Here are the numbers for Fred, Mitt, and Rudy, with"Strong" listed first followed by "Not Strong/Lean". . . . .

“Great news that Senator Fred Thompson is doing so well in Iowa, Florida, Georgia, South & North Carolina, etc. So sad that a truther peacecreep kook like Rep. Ron Paul is polling better than Rep. Duncan Hunter. Time for the Hunterites to join the Fredheads and unite to elect a viable conservative, IMO. Hopefully President Thompson will appoint Mr. Hunter to Defense, Homeland Security, FEMA, Veterans Affairs or some other appropriate post. Perhaps he can make Ron Paul ambassador to Antarctica.”
There are 25% of the Republicans that have proclivities that might not make them Republicans thus the support to Rudy. Hunter and Thompson have records as conservatives and Thompson is the most electable at this point, and I think he is the most electable across all bounds so I switched from Hunter to Thompson some time ago. I would rather win with a conservative then die as a party behind someone that is nothing more than Hillary lite.
Those with proclivities less than Republican will vote for a Republican because they are probably libertarian fiscal conservatives.
Senator Fred Thompson is the only major candidate that gets it. He makes decisions based on principles. Principles dont change. You have to stand for something and not change who you are based on the polls. That is what Mitt Romney and Rudy Giuliani have done and all of the Democrats do it. Give me a leader that will stand by his principles anyday versus someone that stands for everything.
I know many, many Republicans that will stay home if Rudy Giuliani is the candidate. He does not represent our values as Conservatives, and never will. Mitt Romney is a RINO (though a very nice man) that simply has everything else and nothing to do: I guess Ill just try to buy the presidency. Conservatives will simply stay home and the Democrats will pick up additional seats in the House and probably get the 60 seats in the Senate they need to completely destroy our Country. Nice picture huh?
However, I think Fred can bring America back together, if thats even possible. America needs a rebirth of patriotism and honor. Republicans also need a rebirth. President Reagan was our last rebirth and he can never be duplicated. Fred Thompson will bring his own down-to-earth common sense to this Country and strength back to our party. A little of the good old days of faith and family would do well for this Country. If a Conservative runs as a Conservative, he will win!
Think of it this way: Eight years of another Clinton White House? Now if that is not a sufficient enough reason to pull together as a party, as a Country, and fight this socialist liberal takeover of our government, what is? It is not impossible to take back the House and the Senate. We are winning in Iraqthey know it. The best they can do now is stop our progress and choose defeat, just like they did during Vietnam. We lost because Congress chose defeat. History repeats itself when not learned from.
Folks, we are in for the fight of our lives, just as our young men and women are fighting for our freedoms in Iraq and Afghanistan, we must fight for our Country right here and now! I truly believe Fred Thompson is the one man who can pull this party and nation back together! Rudy Giuliani will just tear us apart as a party. Liberal is liberal every day of the week.
Really tick off the leftist hippies and contribute to Fred Thompson: https://www.fred08.com/contribute.aspx?RefererID=c637caaa-315c-4b4c-9967-08d864cd0791
Math never was your strong-suit, was it?
Nope. No attempt to be clever at all. It’s spelled out quite clearly.
Thompson’s policy discussions are as shallow as they come.
And by the way people react to him, you’d think the GOP was a party that didn’t care about the federal marriage amendment, didn’t care about commmitting to not raising taxes, didn’t care about tort reform, and didn’t care whether the border fence gets built or not.
Even putting the hy GOPers flock to presidential candidates who can’t put together a detailed policy statement is beyond me. First Bush. Now Thompson. Just go for the bumpkin who talks real nice-like. And I say this as a Tennesseean with the accent to vouch for it.
>>>Kind of surprises me this comes from a Newsweek poll. Typically their polls are terrible, and usually favor the Liberal.<<<
This poll does favor the liberal.
How would you know?
Roll on, Axis of Desperation.
She wouldn’t. She just attacks anyone or anything Pro-Fred.
**Sniff sniff** You can smell the desperation, can’t you?
You do realize that even the CDC conceded that polls were obsolete, that there is a dwindling number of landline phones, right?
Nice graphic there. I’d post a graphic of Romney, but he would waste my time picking and choosing which hole he wants to stick his head in.
How deliciously honest of you. Of course this poll favors the liberal, Slick Willard still leads by eight points.
If by that you mean Romney....yes....technically. But since Romney is supposed to be ahead double digits, it’s been his strategy, this poll doesn’t really favor him imo.
If by that you mean Thompson...LOL
I thought everyone knew I am a nuclear physicist. :p
The media today was working overtime to show the field as “wide open” and tucking in “front runner Guiliani” comments.
The MSM really really really despises Thompson.
This isn't surprising since Fred is still in his honeymoon. He is enjoying his "Wesley Clark" moment.
And the likes of George Will and Robert Novak are deeply saddened...
God, I love it!
There is a reason for that of course.
We don’t like the other “front runners”.
Fred’s not perfect but he’s good enough to meet the idealogical requirements we require in a candidate. The people attacking him don’t seem to get that. If we succumb to their attacks, where do we go? So call him lazy, say he’s dying of cancer, say he’s a flaming liberal...no one is going to listen because our alternatives are Rudy, Romney, McCain or people that don’t have a chance of being elected.
If anything their attacks serve to remind everyone of the alternatives.
