Thank God! Last thing the GOP needed was Newt in the mix. He is best at articulating issues, explaining their history and pressing issues forward. As a candidate, unfortunately, he carries way too much baggage.

Hopefully he can continue what he is doing. He is not a national candidate.

Excellent news. He is too bitter and too unelectable.

Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich will not run for president in 2008 after determining he could not legally explore a bid and remain as head of his tax-exempt political organization, a spokesman said Saturday.

While I had no interest in his candidacy, his excuse sure sounds like one he has had in his pocket since the first rumor that he might consider running. Sorry but this is very lame.

This is all for the best.

He would be well suited in a Cabinet post or other advisory position. He has some good ideas.

He used to be my Congressman - he has the wrong personality, too much baggage, and not enough courage to run for national office. He folded like a cheap suit when Clinton threatened him (presumably with exposing his cheating on his 2nd wife).

Then he should respectfully shut up. I was a big Newt fan back in the day, but what he seems to have recently morphed into is, frankly, just annoying.

He didn't know this before he started this charade?

C'mon, Newt...we're not buying it.

This saddens me. Unlike most of you, I saw Newt as about our only hope in getting our nutts out of the fire. No other candidate now or later will get anyone’s hopes up. It’ll just be the SOS. The last thing this country needs is the SOS.

I think Newt has acted wisely.

Ambassador to the United Nations?

Newt would be every bit as powerful (if not more) than the esteemed John Bolton himself.

Oh Good Grief. He knew that. He just wont admit he just ain't getting any mojo for his bid to run.

(Yes. there is a God.)

So you guys are all ready for more of the same then.

He was about our only hope for new ideas that really worked.

There are no R candidates that are able to implement real change.

So gear up for more of the same. We will be complaining about the same issues for the next 4 years.

It’s too bad Newt’s deeds, both personal and political, never lived up to his intellect.

And he is co-author of a book coming out next month called “A Contract with the Earth” (Johns Hopkins University Press), which sketches what he calls “a green conservatism.”

He is gearing up to promote his new book.

If his new book is anything like the following, I will like it. But I got a feeling that I won't:
