WASHINGTON (AP) - Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich will not run for president in 2008 after determining he could not legally explore a bid and remain as head of his tax-exempt political organization, a spokesman said Saturday.
"Newt is not running," spokesman Rick Tyler said. "It is legally impermissible for him to continue on as chairman of American Solutions (for Winning the Future) and to explore a campaign for president."
Gingrich decided "to continue on raising the challenges America faces and finding solutions to those challenges" as the group's chairman, Tyler said, "rather than pursuing the presidency."

Thank God! Last thing the GOP needed was Newt in the mix. He is best at articulating issues, explaining their history and pressing issues forward. As a candidate, unfortunately, he carries way too much baggage.

Hopefully he can continue what he is doing. He is not a national candidate.

Sorry but this is very lame.

This is all for the best.
He would be well suited in a Cabinet post or other advisory position. He has some good ideas.
He used to be my Congressman - he has the wrong personality, too much baggage, and not enough courage to run for national office. He folded like a cheap suit when Clinton threatened him (presumably with exposing his cheating on his 2nd wife).

Then he should respectfully shut up. I was a big Newt fan back in the day, but what he seems to have recently morphed into is, frankly, just annoying.

I agree. He is an excellent speaker, great in debates, intelligent, and has good ideas. But he cannot get away from the fiascoes in his personal life.

He didn't know this before he started this charade?
C'mon, Newt...we're not buying it.

This saddens me. Unlike most of you, I saw Newt as about our only hope in getting our nutts out of the fire. No other candidate now or later will get anyone’s hopes up. It’ll just be the SOS. The last thing this country needs is the SOS.
To: DelaWhere
I think Newt has acted wisely.
Ambassador to the United Nations?
Newt would be every bit as powerful (if not more) than the esteemed John Bolton himself.

after determining he could not legally explore a bid and remain as head of his tax-exempt political organization, Oh Good Grief. He knew that. He just wont admit he just ain't getting any mojo for his bid to run.
(Yes. there is a God.)
