Hyannis, MA - September 28, 2007 - Eileen Smith has come forward in order to keep her daughter's abortion death from being "swept under the rug." Her 22-year old daughter, Laura Hope Smith, died on September 13, 2007, during an abortion done by Rapin Osathanondh at Women Health Clinic in Hyannis, Massachusetts.
Smith told Operation Rescue that she had no idea that her daughter was 13 weeks pregnant and considering an abortion. A friend accompanied Laura to the clinic. Early reports indicated that Laura died of hemorrhage, but Smith says that her daughter died on the abortion table. "There was no bleeding. She stopped breathing and went into cardiac arrest," said Smith.
Ten days after Laura's death, Smith met privately for one hour at a public place with Osathanondh. He would only meet with Smith alone and refused to allow even allow her husband to accompany her. Osathanondh admitted that Laura died during the abortion but refused to admit he did anything wrong.
Smith told Operation Rescue that the details of her daughter's death appalled and sickened her, but she could not discuss those details because she is seeking legal action against Osathanondh for killing her daughter.
"My daughter was 22, healthy, and alive when she walked into that clinic," Smith said. "She didn't even have a cold. There is no reason for her to be dead."
Laura was born into abject poverty in Hondurus on May 25, 1985, and was abandoned at an orphanage. An American couple that adopted Laura abused her terribly and gave her up. Laura was then adopted by Tom and Eileen Smith, a Christian family that lovingly raised Laura in the Cape Cod community of Sandwich.
Laura was a 2004 graduate of Upper Cape Tech, majoring in cosmetology, but later realized that profession did not suit her. At the time of her death she was working in retail management. Laura was a born again Christian who was an active member of Calvary Chapel of Sandwich.
Over 600 people attended Laura's funeral. Since then, at least one young woman has changed her mind about abortion since hearing about what happened to Laura.
Smith told Operation Rescue that two days after Laura's death, she gave a full interview to the local newspaper, which was scheduled to be published on the day of Laura's funeral. The article has yet to appear, leading Smith to believe that there are attempts underway to cover up her daughter's death.
Operation Rescue is urging calls to the local district attorney asking for a formal investigation of Rabin Osathanondh in the abortion death of Laura Hope Smith.

Beware the sin of pride and arrogance, Mr. Lucky.
“You might want to consider finding room in your heart to do so as well — you certainly derive no added power in further condemnation by implication.”
I am greatly concerned that Christians in modern America have become so “nonjudgemental” that they can no longer hear the voice of Scripture. Every harsh and uncompromising statement in the Bible is moderated or explained away by some wishy-washy theology.
“And why call ye me, Lord, Lord, and do not the things which I say?”
“Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven.”
This womam died will attempting to have her baby murdered.
Is murdering your child the will of God?
I'm quite sure this kind of thing happens a lot more often than we know. The MSM is in the pocket of the abortion providers and helps to keep this stuff 'under the rug'.
I hope Ms. Smith screams so long and so loud about this that the MSM cannot continue to ignore it.
Well from his point of view he killed *two* people, he did twice as good as he usually does..
Is that a stone in your hand..
Yes the fault lies with her for making that decision but your post “She walked into the clinic for the purpose of killing her own child...she was already morally and spiritually dead.” is not about the consequence of her sin, its about the state of her soul and if you think you go through a week without sinning you have some issues of your own..
“Osathanondh admitted that Laura died during the abortion but refused to admit he did anything wrong.”
Was she raped? Was she going to die if she carried the baby to term? Did the “Doktor” know that you can detect fetal heart sounds at 10 weeks?
He did something wrong alright. He murdered one person and at the very least comitted negligent homicide on another.
Calling fornication and murder serious sins is itself a "sin"?
Better talk to the Apostle Paul about his alleged "sins" of "pride and arrogance".
Better yet, come to grips the logical conundrum of your condemnation of Mr. Lucky for calling this girl out on the evil she did. Why aren't you equally guilty of sins of "pride" and "arrogance"?
You post makes many great points. Reminds me of a Contemporary Christian song I heard recently. It is called “Stained Glass Masquerade.”
Condemning someone as "judgmental" for condemning someone seeking to kill their child, now, that's okay. Virtuous, even.
Calling a sin a "sin" is now a "sin" in and of itself, at least if the first sin involved someone's sexual organs.
We're in deep trouble as a culture, PM.
Let me guess...You are Roman Catholic.
Why do you think they want their money up front?
When you come to Christ, He will take you as you are, but you must repent of your rebellion against Him and you should change your ways. If you come to Christ, but insist that murder is still ok for you or some others, then you haven't repented and you are still in rebellion. If I'm a drunkard and get saved, I may fall off the wagon, but I must still believe that Jesus doesn't approve of my actions. You can't claim Christ and still say fornication and adultery are ok because "everybody" does it. Just because mans law says murdering babies is legal, God's law should rule YOUR life. If Christians stood up for the fundamentals of God's Word, then the world would have to change instead of the churches falling to the world. An example is the Rockefeller Republicans have had to accept and cater to Christians in order to win office. If The Rockefeller Republicans are able to abandon Christian fundamental ideals, then the party will split and the Dems will win the next 60 years.
[Judge not lest ye be Judged]
Sorry, but I am a pro-lifer and that’s the way it is. And the fact that her mother knew nothing about the pregnancy tells me alot. My heart breaks for a baby, a young woman who lost her life as well and a grandmother who will never know her grandchild.
But it’s only supposed to kill the unborn child. I feel for this mother/family. Abortions are considered *safe* and the one having it isn’t supposed to die. We rarely, if ever, hear of the complications. It’s just an outpatient *procedure* nothing special.
WTH is this world coming to?
I think that’s the case too. It’s considered common place now (get pregnant, get rid of it, etc.). But even over 20 years ago, I know of girls who aborted or girls who had the baby and gave it up for adoption even though their parents suggested abortion (and too many of those parents were so called Christians). I will never forget my husband’s situation - his sister got pregnant and his parents suggested an abortion because of their issues (Christians, the shame would be too much for THEM, etc.). My cousin got pregnant, I was in high school, and her mother and sisters suggested abortion - that was close to 25 years ago. I will never understand the shame v life stuff.
I agree with you. The culture or something is deadening them/their parents. I always knew as a teen/young adult not to do stuff, lol, but I also knew if I did and got pregnant, then we’d all work it out somehow. I certainly wasn’t what my parents would want for me but heck it happens and you deal with it.
I have 4 girls, two teens now. I hope they know that no matter what, they can come to us and after the screaming or sad faces and tears, we’ll all deal with it. Abortion is never the answer. Ever.
Taping figures with that comment.
And I think if she hadn’t died physically, then she died spiritually. If she had lived, she may have seen her sin and error.
It’s sad that this procedure is advertised as it is - it’s like a trip to the dentist or less. The complications are never advertised. And the emotional aspect is never addressed.
I had a friend who had an abortion when we were 16 or so. About 25 yrs ago or so. A couple of years later, she asked me to attend confession with her. She wanted to confess it (since she knew it was wrong, imo). She’s a typical or stereotypical liberal - still is today. But her abortion affected her and she can deny it today but I recall what she went through years ago. She had a baby after suffering many miscarriages. She kept saying it wasn’t because of her abortion and I’m sure it wasn’t but the point was SHE thought it was even though she denied it often. She’s felt guilty since her abortion but keeps explaining it way. And our society is perpetrating it. No guilt or accountablity for anything anymore.
“I found her obit, it says she has a fiance serving in Iraq:”
I wonder if the fiance was the daddy? That might have been motive for an abortion. Stranger things have happened.
