HANOVER, N.H. In the final moments of the Democratic presidential debate here last night, after nearly two hours of wading through their differences on Iraq, health care, tax policy and a variety of other weighty matters, the candidates were asked a crisp question: What is your favorite Bible verse?
Senator Barack Obama: The Sermon on the Mount, because it expresses a basic principle that I think weve lost over the last six years.
Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton: The Golden Rule: Do unto others as you would have them do unto you. I think thats a good rule for politics, too.
Mike Gravel: The most important thing in life is love. Thats what empowers courage and courage implements the rest of our virtues.
Representative Dennis Kucinich: Prayer from St. Francis, which says, Lord make me an instrument of your peace.
John Edwards: What you do unto the least of those, you do unto me.
New Mexico Gov. Bill Richardson: The Sermon on the Mount, because I believe its an issue of social justice, equality, brotherly issues reflecting a nation that is deeply torn and needs to heal and come together.
Senator Christopher J. Dodd: The Good Samaritan would be a worthwhile sort of description of who we all ought to be in life.
Senator Joseph R. Biden Jr.: Christs warning of the Pharisees. There are many Pharisees, and its part of what has bankrupted some peoples view about religion. And I worry about the Pharisees.

And who is Mike Gravel?
How DARE those sick, athiest scumbags quote from the Holy Bible for political ends....
Wow. Every time I wonder if the rats can sink any lower they answer, loud and clear.
That was horrible.
Only John Edwards actually answered the question.
Everyone else botched it.
Not that I expected otherwise..
Did any of them slip into a pandering Southern accent when they recited the verse?
“And who is Mike Gravel?”

I owe you three minutes of your life.
Proof that God is long suffering.
Otherwise about six or seven lightning bolts would have come out of the sky unto that stage.
And this, after they all fell all over themselves promoting the teaching of homosexual curriculum to second graders.
It is unthinkable that the leadership of one of the two major political parties in America is composed of these talentless pandering hacks.
I did not know the golden rule was in the bible!

Have you read the Gospels?
Even Satan can quote scripture.
There’s nothing new under the sun...

Surely by now her handlers have begged and pleaded with her not to do that... kind of unfortunate really... if it had gone on longer before it was exposed we likely could have had a collection of her imitating all the regions.
Hillary actually quoted the Golden Rule.
Of course they prepped. They're the God party this year. No more, "Job is my favorite book of the New Testament for the Dems."
But the answers don't surprise me. All of them avoided the central message of the Gospel and focused on the stuff that any wise man could have said. That is consistent with the generally secular view of dems.
I wasn’t aware that St Francis of Assissi was quoted in the Bible either...who knew!
Yep, it's in there.
>>Have you read the Gospels?

For his own purpose...
That’s one of the many reasons the big themes of the Bible are more important than the details... otherwise you can read “go forth and take up the serpents” and wind up following a rattlesnake handler..
>>No more, “Job is my favorite book of the New Testament for the Dems.”<<
Did somebody really say that?
I’m going to approach this from a hopeful angle.
Remember, Christ ate with and spent time with sinners, bringing them to faith.
I believe very soon we will see a time when the atheistic, anti-infant grip on the Democratic party will be BROKEN. The simple fact that they are allowing such questions into their dialogue is a good thing.
Don’t you think they’re conscience pricked them a little bit just reciting these passages? Abortion’s grip on our culture and all politics is waning, and the dam will soon break and the waters wash our culture clean.
Spectacularly well done! Truly the ONLY response!
Howard Dean. He got surprised by one of those God questions. The rest of the dems' handlers have them prepped so they sound like they actually know something. Note, all of them had a verse memorized.
I bet if they'd asked them their next favorite verse, they would have been completely bollixed.
