Re: Voting Rights - DC + ID cards for voting

TomT: totally right, DC IS NOT A STATE, correct it, then it can work. Photo ID: not asking to much of people to do such a scared duty. 100% dead on!

Duncan: ties statehood to keep and bear arms. distinguished between the road blocks the racist dems put in place vs. IDs (illegal aliens voting)

Keyes: good historical backgroun re: DC and purposes behind DC not being a state. Keyes, despite his French politician like mannerisms.

Huckabee: pandering to the black vote re: DC (it’s unconstitutional bud). IDs, good point - get on a plane, ID, vote, none? mayhem.

RPaul: DC - unconstitutional. ID: no real ID, no national ID.

BBack: amend constitution.

Cynthia Tucker Q: Voting rights, D.C., and requirements of showing ID.

Tancredo: Talks of DC represenation. It’s not asking too much of people to show they are the person they say they are.

Hunter: Open to statehood for D.C. if they are allowed the right to protect themselves with firearms. The first 21 blacks were Republicans. We have a danger of illegals voting illegally, dilutes others votes.

Keyes: D.C. established for a reason. If folks don’t want to live there, they can go to Maryland, Virginia, they have that right to exercise.

Huckabee: D.C. should be able to be represented, would amend the constitution, it’s not the same D.C. that was originally created. It’s not unreasonable to show I.D.

Paul: D.C. statewood only by constitutional matter. Fears any move to a national ID card

Brownback: chaired D.C. subcommittee. supports D.C.’s right, there is a way to do it, and a way not to do it. By amending Constitution. D.C. deserves that right.

How many of these hispanics who don’t spend on health care or see doctors send part or all of their paycheck out of the country to family elsewhere?

For some, it is a matter of choice and priorities.

they are all not “the front runners”,

No question the most conservative candidates are NOT RNC “superstars”! The RNC’s job is to win elections. If they could find someone who happens to BE conservative AND an electable candidate ala Ronald Reagan all the better. However winning an election trumps conservatism. You doubt it check out people like Arlin Spector and John McCain !!!

“I know, it wasn’t a very clear statement by me, I was just expressing a sense of sadness at it all.”

And you are correct in your feelings, I comiserate. It IS sad when the most reliable conservative running cannot get past 1% in the polls. Maybe if he had been a governor things would be different, but since we do not have a reliably conservative governor running, we will end up with either Trudy, Mitt or Fred.

Out of those three, I’m going to vote for Fred in the primary. Should Mitt win the nomination instead, I’ll have no qualms about voting for him in the general even though I don’t trust him as much as I wish I could.

I wouldn’t vote for Trudy if he was holding a nail file to my dogs’ throat.

Many of them are illegal and use the ER as free health care clinics. Why pay for insurance when you can get it for free?

Disparate healthcare: (how change)

Duncan: stop focusing on race, access for all. (major theme of this debate - repubs making the point, some focusing on race and segregating the issues - the issues affect all Americans and the solutions will help all Americans). Solution: market system, tax breaks, “bring back the family doctor”

AKeyes: “bring back the family.” (major theme for him) marriage, two parent household, stats show better health if raised in that environment. Healthcare interrelated to employment, so need to create jobs.

Huckabee: prevention not reactive/intervention. (true). consumer ownership. portable med records (a Bush policy that never seemed to materialize)

RP: corporatism runs healthcare. get gov’t out the way (special interests). he rambles. Paul has the right principles, but he’s like a ranting looney professor. He’s totally right about principles, but just not specific and focused enough.

BB: market solutions. when gov’t enters in we get worse serves and higher costs. HSAs.

TomT: personal responsibility. HSAs. access to drugs from outside US. expand individual freedom and access.

Q: Access to Healthcare

Hunter: I practiced law in the barrio. We should be allowed to buy health care across state lines. Bring back the family doctor.

Keyes: Bring back the family. Do what is necessary to encourage marriage, encourage rearing children, statistics show better results from whole family environment.

Huckabee: Our health care is upside down. Money should be on preventive side, not intervention. Portable medical records (shouldn’t just stay with the doctor).

Paul: We’ve had managed care since the 70s. It’s very expensive. Everybody’s unhappy. Lobbyists cause the cry for socialized medicine and that’s not what we need. Prices go up with government involvement.

Brownback: do we do it with more govt or with more markets? I say real markets. Health savings accounts, tax-exempt.

Tancredo: It’s YOUR health care. It’s your personal individual responsibility. Lifestyle problems we do to ourselves. Health saving accounts. Get drugs from anyplace, Canada, wherever.

Huckabee now playing to the audience. Blaming the USG for the quality of healthcare for veterans. Huckabee is out for me on the ticket as either President or VP. That is one product of this debate.

Did you hear Tom Tancreado talk about NOT having a problem with Americans getting cheaper drugs from Canada. The compassionate conservative in the White House now has a REAL problem with doing this. You see his buddies in the pharmaceutical industry don’t like this practice so Bush has moved to stop it !!!

Maybe, just MAYBE, if the voters who consider themselves "true conservatives" would actively support the most conservative candidate instead of expending enormous amounts of energy and venom condemning other Republican candidates in the running...instead of just being "sad" about it all when your very attacks are making it worse for the conservative candidate and weakening GOP chances, MAYBE the standing of the conservative candidate would improve.

Now, I know these words won't be heard or heeded, I just need to say it.
