CORONADO, Calif. -- The U.S. Navy will spend as much as $600,000 to modify the appearance of a barracks complex in Coronado that resembles a swastika from the air.

Navy officials said the spending for changes to the four L-shaped buildings were approved after satellite images from Google Earth revealed the swastika-like shape.

You are so right! What if a satallite photo showed that the Mississippi River intersected with other rivers in a way that suggested a series of crosses? OMG! What would we ever do! I guess we would have to blow up the Mississippi and re-route it in socially neutral designs.

The two buildings to the left were meant to look like bombers heading for the swastika.

You know, I think you’re right. The architect was having a real good time with that project back in the 1960s.

Heh, heh, heh. I had almost forgot about those bldgs. We got a chuckle every time we flew over the amphib base there at Coronado back in the 80’s. Don’t think the Navy didn’t know about it either. I know that I personally told them at least a dozen times.

Too funny! It looks like airplanes are flying into it from the left, too.

I did a language change on those Chinese character buildings. It translates to ‘the longer you wait, the sooner it’ll be here’.

Is it possible that the project was not completed all at once- add-ons/remodeling over the years?

I also think it possible that if it was noticed- they did not see the issue with it, to me it is not a big deal. People will find all sorts of things that remind them of other things if they look hard enough.

That building should DEFINITELY be torn down. I don’t really have a good reason other than that it is just plain fuggly.

"I’ll say this is $600K well spent (put up some awnings, or something)."

Now watch them plant a circle of trees around those barracks with it!
