In an ammendment to the Defense Appropriation Bill the Senate requests that the Iranian Republican Guard be declared a terrorist organization. The text of the request in S.Amdt. 3017 that passed 76-22 (2 not voting) is as follows:
" (5) that the United States should designate the Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps as a foreign terrorist organization under section 219 of the Immigration and Nationality Act and place the Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps on the list of Specially Designated Global Terrorists, as established under the International Emergency Economic Powers Act and initiated under Executive Order 13224;"
The entire text of the ammendment is at the link.

Of course our New Mexico town idiot Bingaman voted against it.
Good. We’ll get these Iranians in jumpsuits and down to Gitmo before Maliki can get them released.
The usual idiot suspects parade.
That list of ‘NAY’ votes is a list of IDIOTS. Some people say they want to focus only upon subsets of the IRGC that actually transport the weapons into Iraq and do the training there, as though the master group should be ignored as a terrorist force. The Islamists are constantly creating smaller splinter groups for various tactical, personnel, and ideological reasons — but it plays right into their hands to only go after the new itty bitty groups, or the groups that are directly involved in specific attacks, and not to realize that the entire IRGC is the enemy.
I’d say it’s a big developement as we’re waging a global war on terror. Declaring an arm of the Iranian military a terrorist organization could be considered tantamount to a declaration of war against Iran.
I agree. It seems to make more sense to wipe out the big pockets first to take the teeth out of these splinter groups. Where do these people think these little groups are getting their equipment/training from?
That’s my take on it. It atleast provides justification.
Thanks.
How did the House vote?
“I was slumming at the DUmp”
What else did you find? I suppose they were freaking out that we might send troops or something........
At least they aren't homosexuals...
They haven’t yet. The Senate just approved this ammendment yesterday and as far as the bill record shows it was the last action taken on the bill up to this point.
The last action I can find from the house is the passage of the Popcorn Workers Lung Disease Prevention Act.
I’d have my staff research this further, but if I was a very conservative Senator, I might have voted against it too since it seems to be usurping Executive power. Admitting that the Senate has the power to add to the list means they can subtract from it too. Still, all’s well that ends well.
I cant see how that as a bad thing. Those guys at the DUmp really cant see past their own noses can they?
Thanks, I thought there was a similiar/cooresponding bill in the house already voted on.
And if they have been voted as a terrorist group, what would stop us from including them in the war on terror? We should start the immediate bombing of any place that this group hangs out. Go in and kill as many of them as possible. Break all their toys...NOW!!!!
I’ll fish around for it. Maybe there is an ajoining bill that I missed.
The usual I always find, impeach Bush, blah, blah, blah.
This one caught my eye because I think they are correct. I don't think President Bush will leave them to be dealt with by a democrat, and they know this deep down inside too, but for a different reason. They think he LIKES to go to war, and won't pass up the chance while we here understand that it is NECCESARY to do it sometimes.
