Dealing with global warming will be painful, says one of the most powerful Democrats in Congress. To back up his claim he is proposing a recipe many people won't like _ a 50-cent gasoline tax, a carbon tax and scaling back tax breaks for some home owners.Dingell says he hasn't rule out such a so-called "cap-and-trade" system, either, but that at least for now he wants to float what he believes is a better idea. He will propose for discussion:
_A 50-cent-a-gallon tax on gasoline and jet fuel, phased in over five years, on top of existing taxes.
_A tax on carbon, at $50 a ton, released from burning coal, petroleum or natural gas.
_Phaseout of the interest tax deduction on home mortgages for homes over 3,000 square feet. Owners would keep most of the deduction for homes at the lower end of the scale, but it would be eliminated entirely for homes of 4,200 feet or more.
He estimates that would affect 10 percent of homeowners. He says "it's only fair" to tax those who buy large suburban houses and create urban sprawl. Historic and farm houses would be exempted.

Coming to you from the Marxist Tyrants soon to be in charge of new social engineering policies. If you think about the broader picture it all begins to make sense. Stop a "growth" economy and replace it with a "No Growth" economy through higher taxes, fees and regulatory red tape. A significant reduction in economic activity will of course reduce the generation of "green house" gases while at the same time causing a significant up tick of unemployment creating a larger pool dependent on Uncle Sugar Daddy for subsistence thus creating more pro-Marxist, anti-American voters. It might just work!

Since he doesn’t even claim to be raising money to SPEND ON FIGHTING GLOBAL WORMING, his only point is to cause pain.

This is just an excuse to raise taxes period. The money won’t be spent on anything that will do a damn thing related to GW. It will go into pork projects in Dhimmikratz districts. This is just as big a scam as GW is already. Note that he didn’t release any info on projects that the monies are to be used for, just raise the taxes, THEN they’ll decide what to do with it. .......................

Can’t they keep him busy doing something less damaging? What happened to his impeachment plans?

Any tax revenue used to reduce CO2 emissions is still money down the crapper.

This is what the whole global cooling/warming/climate change thing has always been about: redistribution of the wealth, from the proletariat to thje priviledged class. Social communism WORKS, darnit! Hundreds of millions of dead people can’t be wrong. Just ask Bill, Hill, Al, Joe, Chuck, etc., etc.

Raising taxes has been the goal all along. The global warming farce has merely been the latest means to achieve that goal.

Its almost time for the next revolution.
I agree. It's to revolt with a fundamental change in our tax code. Imposing taxes is no longer used simply collection but is used to control and punish the people. The answer is a bill before Congress called
The Fair Tax Act Of 2007. it will abolish all federal income taxes and the socialist IRS and replace it with a consumption tax. More information can be found at the
Americans For Fair Taxation website.

I’m not exactly sure what Big John’s position is on Global Warming, but I know he’s a big backer of the US Auto makers. This is a very interesting tactic to smoke out the lefties. Let’s see if any of them have the stones to step forward. I think this is his way of thumbing his nose at all the greenies.

This particular action isn’t so much Marxist as it is anti-American. You just about could not come up with a better plan to put our country at a disadvantage versus Russia and China.

An average-sized coal power plant would put out about 3 megatonnes of CO2. So, this tax proposal would add $150 million per year to its operating costs and you would have to pay about twice as much for power.
On average, 1 million people produce about 30 megatonnes of GHGs each year and thus total taxation would increase by $1.5 Billion or $1,500 per person.
If we are going to pay twice as much for power, and pay $1,000s more in taxes each year, and wreck the economy in the process, then the science better be 100% proven.
