Miller pulls logo from 'gay' Last Supper ad
WorldNetdaily.com ^ | September 26, 2007

Posted on 09/27/2007 4:00:26 AM PDT by Man50D

Responding to pressure from Christian groups, the Miller Brewing Co. is asking organizers of a "gay" street celebration in San Francisco to remove its logo from a promotional poster portraying Jesus Christ and his disciples as "half-naked homosexual sadomasochists."

As WND reported, the poster for the Folsom Street Fair replaces the bread and wine representing Christ's blood and body with sadomasochistic sex toys.

In a statement on its website, Miller said while it has "supported the Folsom Street Fair for several years, we take exception to the poster the organizing committee developed this year."

"We understand some individuals may find the imagery offensive and we have asked the organizers to remove our logo from the poster effective immediately," the company said.

The annual street event, which includes displays of nudity and sexual activity, is scheduled for Sept. 30. It describes its mission as organizing "world-class volunteer driven leather events, providing the adult alternative lifestyle community safe venues for self-expression, emphasizing freedom, fun and frolic, while raising money to benefit San Francisco charities."

Money talks.

Do these big corporations not have PR staff that spend many hours in board rooms discussing stuff like this? You'd think any sane person would have objected to their own sponsorship of such blatant anti-Christian, anti-"normal," in-your-face propoganda, especially a beer company in this country. Surely one soul, one meek, wise soul, raised a question about the wisdom of offending their base....

Something interesting, Miller is not a local brand these days. Most of the stock is foreign owned.

South African Breweries was founded in 1895 by Jacob Letterstedt specifically to serve a new market of miners and prospectors in and around Johannesburg. Two years later, it became the first industrial company to list on the Johannesburg Stock Exchange (JSE). It has been a dominant player on the exchange ever since. In 2002, the company merged with Miller Brewing Company, forming the world’s second largest brewery; the combined company is now known as SABMiller.

Too little too late. Should have denounced the ad and pulled their sponsorship.

“You’d think any sane person would have objected to their own sponsorship of such blatant anti-Christian, anti-”normal,” in-your-face propoganda, especially a beer company in this country.”

In today’s corporate culture you cannot question diversity. Someone would have to say to the boss “ya know this whole half-naked, bondage with sex toys imitation of sacred Christian event might offend someone”. The boss’s response would probably be “whats wrong with this, why are those hateful Christians so intolerant”

Just a guess on my part.

Miller has to walk a fine line here. If they condemn the poster, they offend their customers who consider themselves to be open and tolerant. If they do not condemn the poster, they offend their customers who hold traditional values. Either way they offend some of their customers.

It’s a mess they made for themselves, however. They agreed to sponsor this event, and now they got stung. I would imagine they did not approve this poster in advance, but merely agreed to sponsor the event and allow their logo to be placed on promotional material, without knowing what that material would be.

There is a certain level of trust in such an arrangement. Certainly Miller did not think the organizers would be so outrageously irresponsible. I hope they know better now.

Hide the connection between alcohol sales and Satan if they want, the link is still there...

But to hit the other topic that comes up in this article - If a group wants acceptance and tolerance, they logically shouldn’t do all they can to offend those who would be opposed to them in the first place. That is called being antagonistic.

Say there is a dog in the neighborhood. That dog barks like mad every time anyone walks by. There are signs posted to “beware of dog”. But as long as you don’t stop and throw rocks at the dog, reach through with a stick and poke the dog, or otherwise antagonize the dog, you are safe. So, along comes the neighborhood idiot who not only walks up to the fence screaming at the dog, but he then throws rocks, pokes at it with a stick, and opens the gate. And he wonders why he is in the hospital with stitches all over from the dog attack.

In a different way - if you want peace with your neighbors, you don’t antagonize them at every opportunity. If you want people to not look at how you are different, then emphasize how you are alike, not rub your differences in their face and tell them they have to not only accept, but love those differences.

You assumptions are incorrect.

They do not want acceptance and tolerance. They want to be the "other". They want to be seen as perverse. They want to be unnatural and outside the main-stream. They want your condemnation and even your oppression, as long as it is light oppression and everybody remembers the "safe word".

The problem is, as society becomes more tolerant and adopts a live-and-let-live attitude, it gets harder and harder to incite moral outrage. So they have to become progressively more outrageous. This year it was a queered up depiction of the Last Supper. I don't even want to know what they will come up with next year.

Well, their choice is simple - they can offend that 1% of the population that professes to be gay, or they can offend the other 99% of the population.

Doesn't matter much to me - I don't buy their p-water anyway.
