Why Hillary will say no to Obama
Politico ^ | Sep 26, 2007 | Roger Simon

If Hillary Clinton gets the Democratic nomination — and she certainly may not — her first and most important decision will be her choice of a running mate.

While the choice will be hers alone, there will be enormous pressure on her within the Democratic Party to choose Barack Obama.

It would be a unifying decision, and parties always seek unity after divisive primary battles.

Putting Obama on the ticket also would be historic in that there has never been a black vice presidential nominee. It would also be fitting in that African-Americans are the most loyal voters that the Democrats have, and no Democrat can get elected to the presidency without an overwhelming black vote.

Putting Obama on the ticket might also make possible the winning of some Southern states that have large numbers of black voters but have gone Republican in the past. (The John Kerry-John Edwards ticket did not carry a single Southern state in 2004, even though Edwards was born in South Carolina and had represented North Carolina in the Senate.)

Obama said recently: “I guarantee you African-American turnout, if I’m the nominee, goes up 30 percent around the country, minimum.” He said he could carry Mississippi and Georgia and put South Carolina in play.

While Obama was talking about what would happen if he were the nominee, even as No. 2 on the ticket, he might reasonably be expected to increase black turnout in key states.

"We're going to take things away from you on behalf of the common good."

"We must stop thinking of the individual and start thinking about what is best for society.”

"It's time for a new beginning, for an end to government of the few, by the few, for the few, and to replace it with shared responsibility for shared prosperity."

"We can't just let business as usual go on, and that means something has to be taken away from some people."

"We have to build a political consensus and that requires people to give up a little bit of their own turf in order to create this common ground."

"I certainly think the free market has failed."

"I think it's time to send a clear message to what has become the most profitable sector [oil] in the entire economy, that they are being watched."

"What I want to do is take those profits and apply them to alternative energy."

Karl Marx or Frederick Engels said none of these things; Hillary Clinton said them all.

She’s a control freak. Both clintons are control freaks. They put personal loyalty and servile obedience in their subordinates above everything else. There’s no way they would let Obama have it.

To the points made in the article I would add a third: hillary and bill are photo-op freaks. They don’t want anyone competing with them for the camera and the magazine covers. Obama must be relegated to the back pages and obscurity before they are happy.

Obama would be a disaster for two reasons.

1. It would be way to obvious a political ‘ploy’.

2. She’s already got problems with the perception she hates the military. Obama, being a lightweight on most issues, but specifically on national defense, would bring nothing to the ticket to correct that perception.

Bingo, or Weasely Clark. The Clintons don’t like to be upstaged.

Look who Bubba picked - Algore - one of the least charismatic and unintelligent men ever to hold a position that is well known for its dolts.

Nothing the Clintons do is without a political calculation. Hillary! will take a look at the electoral map and do whatever it takes to win the election. Two things stand out like a sore thumb.

The first is OH. Bush won OH by fewer votes over Kerry than he did against Gore. The state is trending left, and did a hard left turn in the '06 elections. Hillary knows if she can pick off OH and keep everything Kerry and Gore had, she's in.

The second is VA. It is also trending leftward. If Hillary! can grab it and keep what Gore had in 2000, she's in.

What kind of running mate can get her those states? It probably isn't Obama. Obama gets her the black vote. But she's got that already by virtue of the "D" after her name. Obama gets her the IL electoral votes. But she's got those already. The place is Ratland. Any 'Rat nominee is going to get IL.

In short, Obama doesn't get Hillary! anything she doesn't already have. But who would? Well, like I said, look at OH and VA. I have an inkling that our new 'Rat Governor, Ted Strickland, might want to keep himself visible at the convention of the 'Rats. Likewise, maybe Jim Webb of VA would want to keep himself available, or maybe their current Governor (don't recall his name).

Absolutely. Many of the Democrat voters vote many times in the same election.

Romney, Fred, Huckabee, Hunter or Tancredo. One of them needs to be President!

Screw Hillary and her marry band of dim witted socialists.

Karl Marx or Frederick Engels said none of these things; Hillary Clinton said them all.

Marx and Engels were intelligent enough to realize that radical change can occur over time painlessly, but only with much pain if attempted immediately!

Hillary(!) is a Marx wannabe but without the smarts to be subtle.

LOL! LOL! LOL!

This has got to be somebody that has no clue about the South!!! Let's not even mention that he has no clue about his own party in the South. This guy has so many issue problems here he makes Hillary look good...yuck.

“Putting Obama on the ticket might also make possible the winning of some Southern states that have large numbers of black voters but have gone Republican in the past.”

Blacks already vote Dem in these states.
If the states went to the Republicans, it was not due to blacks voting Republican.

Blacks WILL vote for her over the Republican candidate. I don’t think it will garner her NEW support to have Obama on the ticket. If anything, it would take away some RINO votes who would otherwise have voted for her.

I don’t claim to know who the beast will pick but I do know this - whoever it is - that person’s balls will be in a jar on her desk.

She can’t afford to reject Obama. He will bring Oprah and the at least 15 % of America’s population. Passing him by could lead some of the black community to think for themselves ...unforgivable

Ditto. End of debate--unfortunately for America :(

my mom is a confused lefty...she hates Hillary, loves Obama...however, she would be very unforgiving if he gave up his principals and ran with Hillary. No point arguing with her on these matters...I just find their thought process humorous. She will simply vote Green party if the dems piss her off.
