Community leaders are meeting with Irving police Monday over a controversial program to deport criminal illegal immigrants.
Members of the Hispanic organization “Accion America,” along with other community and business leaders, have planned a meeting with the police chief of Irving.
The group plans to demand that the city suspend the criminal alien program because they claim immigrants in Irving are being unfairly targeted.
The group says Irving police officers have been confronting people at apartment complexes who appear to be immigrants and asking them about their legal status.
However, Irving police say they are only targeting complexes that have a high crime rate.
The criminal alien program was unanimously approve by the Irving City Council earlier this year. The program is intended to control illegal immigration problems in that city by deporting criminals.
The number one offense that illegal immigrants are being arrested for is driving with a suspended license, according to Irving Mayor Herbert Gears.
The number of those who have been deported so far this year is about 1,000 more than were deported in all of 2006.
Mayor Gears said he believes Irving leads the nation in the number of deportations.
Also at issue is the effect this crackdown is having on families.
While consulate officials say this is unacceptable, Mayor Gears says he stands by the program.
Both sides are meeting at 1:30 p.m. Monday afternoon in the mayor’s office.
The group will also hold a rally Tuesday night at 7 p.m. at Irving City Hall.
Kudos to Irving, we need a lot more patriotic cities a fewer sanctuary cities.
So, the real community leaders, those elected by the people, by the community itself, voted for this measure UNANIMOUSLY.

How about the title of the article/report? “Community Leaders Protest”. The Illegals and those protecting them have become the “leaders” according to this article.

Sad isn’t it and that is the PR taking place in the Muslim populations also. We have let politically correct and diversity take over. It is very discouraging.

Y’OK guys....no more targetting immigrants or criminal aliens...
Just deport all the illegal aliens...especially the illegal aliens who commit further crimes after they criminally enter our county...

As far as I know, Texas is not a state that issues licenses to illegals so how did they get the licenses in the first place?
September 24, 2007 -- nine states allow drivers' licenses for illegal aliens.
It really is time that citizens use their Constitutional rights to protest these folks who advocate the breaking of our laws and advocate that our govt leaders turn a blind eye to this law breaking. I think people should protest (peacefully) in front of their homes and businesses. In addition, if they own businesses boycott them, and encourage others to do so.

I am wondering how long it will take before Americans — even those that are Dims — wake up to what is happening to our home. I think a rising of protest will occur, but hope it is not to late to fix the problems.
I live in Plano, and see the same problems here.
