Election commission: 57,000 ballots were cast in 06
WASHINGTON Overseas military voters had less than half of their votes counted in last years congressional elections, according to data released by the U.S. Election Assistance Commission on Monday.
One thing is clear: At every level of government, we need to do a better job, said Donetta Davidson, chair of the commission. We must make sure all eligible voters are getting their opportunities.
The figures, released at the commissions annual conference on ways to improve and troubleshoot the absentee voting process, showed that only about 992,000 of the nearly 6 million eligible overseas citizens requested ballots for the 2006 general election.
That included about 119,000 military personnel stationed outside the United States. Of those, only about 57,000 less than 48 percent had their votes successfully cast or counted.
EAC officials said thats roughly the same percentage that were counted for expatriates and domestic military filing absentee ballots. The major failures were on the ballot delivery side, with about 72 percent of those who failed to vote never receiving any of their requested election materials.

You know that <>%? I call it the cheat %. I don’t know if 1-2% is high enough though. We probably need to factor in at least 10% to win IMO.
that has always been the lefties policy...create voter apathy through televised and printed propoganda...the problem is there are conservative voter who buy into this crap....it is a civic duty to vote, the larger the turnout, the more conservatives win, and the libs know it..

“When are the Republicans going to wake up to vote fraud on an official basis? The last two national elections were examples of fraud beyond belief in at least 6 states.”

You ain’t seen nothin’ yet! Just wait till the DNC’s “50 State Strategy” kicks in during the ‘08 Presidential election. All the aggrieved (the dis-infranchised), the lawyers, the judges and the media whores are in place, on the payroll and waiting their orders.
So our military personnel are fighting and dying so that Iraqis can vote, while our government takes away the right of those soldiers, sailors, and Marines to vote in U.S. elections by its bureaucratic sloppiness and laziness? This is an outrage, and I want to hear it addressed by candidates running for the GOP nomination.
In Presidental elections, margins of victory are misleading because of the Electoral College.
If we went to a congressional district based distribution of Electoral Votes (the Nebraska/Maine model,) or to a purely popular vote model, then people, for example Republican voters in California, would be more likely to get out to vote even though they know that their state will go the other way.
As it stands now, conservatives in many parts of California stay home, so the margin of victory appears larger than it might otherwise have been if everybody voted.
Save even more money, count only half of all votes.
How about someone flying their jet overseas and flying the votes back? I am totally disgusted by this, and I believe it was done deliberately.
There were reports that the Democrats in 2004 deliberately spun out the court challenges to the ballot in Ohio before the election (having to do with Nader’s name being included) so that overseas military wouldn’t have time to get the final version of the ballot and vote.
I've heard this claim before, but I don't believe it. How often does an absentee ballot have just ONE contest? So a candidate is ahead by 5,000 votes. What about the other races? What about the bond issues? What about the propositions?
Close? Wasnt the vote squeaky close almost everywhere that demokkkrats won? Say, virginia?
Do you have some particular races in mind? Assuming the uncounted ballots break 3 to 1 Republican that is only a net change of less than 30,000 votes spread across 435 Congressional races and 30+ Senate races.
I doubt these uncounted ballots would have had any major impact on the 2006 election results but they should be counted nevertheless.
Governor Rendell of PA wouldn’t extend the deadline after the PA military ballots were sent out late, and then had to be forced to by a lawsuit.
During the Florduh issue with Gore my dad, who votes out of state, was told by the county voting office that they don’t even bother to open the mailed in ballots because they claim they didn’t amount to much. No kidding, didn’t even bother to open them.
“Another leftist policy.”
Not to mention the vote count is given on the news and if all the votes are not counted then we get the problem of one candidate claiming to have won by more of a majority than they actually did.
...more good news for the Democrat Party.
You don’t vote Democrat, so **** off....
Labor intensive? Because you haver to pnen a ballot and stick the punch card into a machine? So what ? Count these ballots first, along with the early ballots. I am thinking of ballots from overseas military: let them to to the head of the line.
What I want to know, understand, is how the public can put pressure on some election commission , federal agency, to get all , all of our military ballots counted. What can we do to help this to occur before 2008? Any websites, any Gop rep who is looking into this to solve this?
