A Few of FR's Finest November 11, 2001

So many people have written me since my original Veteran's Day Tribute, asking how they, or a loved one, could be included in that tribute. Since I could no longer add the photos to the body of the thread, I have been including them here as I receive enough to make another collage.

I think there's never been a better nor more appropriate time to keep the faces of our own Veterans and Active Military in front of FReepers--every day! That's why I wanted to do yet another Daily Thread .....ABOUT FReepers .....and FOR FReepers. But not only about our Military FReepers; for all FReepers! Wouldn't it be nice to get to know a few of the other FReepers as well? That's why we've created a place for just that. This is a friendly room in JimRob's house where FReeper FRiends can gather every day and just say hello if that's all they want to do.

We have featured different FReepers, with a little background information on who they are and what makes them who they are, along with a few photos you might not have seen on other threads; sometimes others write an essay for us to post as the feature for the day; sometimes our presentation is a human interest story found elsewhere that you might not have read; sometimes special holiday threads; but whatever the topic of the day, it is always with FR's Finest in mind and that is YOU!

Every Monday we post the photos of FR's Military Personnel that I have collected and put into groups; these will be available to view through a link the remainder of the week - every day just a click away. :)   If you would like to add a photo of yourself or a loved one in the military, past or present, please let me know; I will hold it until I have enough for a new group.

We drove 8 hours Saturday, spent very good quality time with everyone that night, spent the whole day with everyone Sunday before and after the Service. Then we decided to drive home last night at 8PM, and arrived back home at 3AM. This gives us the day today to do what needs to be done.

I got to sleep by 4 AM and was awake at 10, enough sleep to get me through the day. So much to do with so little time. : )

I have a million memories of the Popaditch’s kindness.
When my casualty officer came to my house the first time it was to tell me that Don was MIA. It took 48 hours for them to change his status to KIA. Mariah’s 7th birthday was 2 later. April had a birthday party for Mariah at her house. Really, April is one of those angels here on Earth that you hear about every once in a long while :)

Your presentation is elegant and befitting our Great Nation and our Greatest, Finest Troops, MEG. As always, you give it the right touch: beautiful.

Most of all, you include the families in those who sacrifice. How true, as evidenced by the story of the widow above and the family members we know on FR, such as yourself.

Although I do not have a family member serving, a very close of mine’s husband is newly deployed with Navy in OIF. She and her children are finding what this means, and living it.

Diver Dave, I also enjoy looking through all the military FReepers’ photos and noted you and your brother there!!!

The Soldier’s Code

deb, when I saw your screenname of 29palms, I figured you would know april & nick but NOT BE next door neighbors & good friends!

He became quite a poster boy here at FR before you arrived. THe guys would post pix of Belly Girl & we had Cigar Guy.

Here is the Memorial Day thread that I did featuring Nick & April. Poor april never did figure out how to sign in & post. We did our correspondence via email. I dont think it was beyond her intelligence, just a time factor.

U.S. Navy Sailors aboard the Arleigh Burke-class guided-missile destroyer USS Lassen (DDG 82) man the rails as the ship arrives in Vladivostok, Russia, Sept. 24, 2007. While visiting Vladivostok, Lassen will participate in Pacific Eagle, a bilateral exercise with the Russian Federated Navy.

Two F/A-18C Hornet aircraft assigned to Strike Fighter Squadron One Nine Five break the sound barrier during an air power demonstration for friends and family of U.S. Navy Sailors assigned to USS Kitty Hawk (CV 63) Sept. 23, 2007. The ship brought more than 2,200 guests aboard for a daylong Friends and Family Day cruise.

U.S. Navy Master-at-Arms 2nd Class Rico Macaraeg, attached to hospital ship USNS Comfort (T-AH 20), patrols the waters around the ship while pierside in Port-of-Spain, Trinidad and Tobago, Sept. 22, 2007. Comfort is on a four-month humanitarian deployment to Latin America and the Caribbean providing medical treatment in a dozen countries.
