Israelis seized nuclear material in Syrian raid

September 23, 2007

Israeli commandos seized nuclear material of North Korean origin during a daring raid on a secret military site in Syria before Israel bombed it this month, according to informed sources in Washington and Jerusalem.

The attack was launched with American approval on September 6 after Washington was shown evidence the material was nuclear related, the well-placed sources say.

They confirmed that samples taken from Syria for testing had been identified as North Korean. This raised fears that Syria might have joined North Korea and Iran in seeking to acquire nuclear weapons.

Israeli special forces had been gathering intelligence for several months in Syria, according to Israeli sources. They located the nuclear material at a compound near Dayr az-Zwar in the north.

Evidence that North Korean personnel were at the site is said to have been shared with President George W Bush over the summer. A senior American source said the administration sought proof of nuclear-related activities before giving the attack its blessing.

Diplomats in North Korea and China believe a number of North Koreans were killed in the strike, based on reports reaching Asian governments about conversations between Chinese and North Korean officials.

Syrian officials flew to Pyongyang, the North Korean capital, last week, reinforcing the view that the two nations were coordinating their response.

Get the hell out of here with this BS - Our warriors are running OP Tempo's you can't even imagine throughout the ME, HOA and SE Asia......

Indeed - what you see in public is one thing, and what is actually happening, often behind the scenes, is another. I've been told that most people would be scared to death if they truly knew what was going on in the world. I don't have the need to know to see that first hand. Someday, hopefully sooner than later, I will, but not today. I can attest that my unit's OP Tempo right now is the highest it's ever been.

It is no secret that China has and will continue to be the only nation that has any control over the actions of DPRK. N Korea depends almost entirely upon China for it’s very survival.

"....what if one blends the outputs of multiple reactors, say Nork AND Iranian (and maybe Pakistani); will we be able to sort through the mix and ID all the sources, or only be able to make an educated guess as to what the sources might be?"

That's easy, we obliterate the whole bunch of them. It will only need be done once to completely stop the sharing of this material.

Unlike the traitors in this nation the Israelis will be able to keep these sources secret and maintain their effectiveness in doing so.

"Israel's pilots are (no offense to the USAF) probably the best in the world."

No offense taken but I am curious about where you got the stats to come to this conclusion.

Probably a stupid question, but I’ve always wondered: is that photo real? Did they really pose as the 4 “evils”?

"Meanwhile, Newsweek quoted Binyamin Netanyahu adviser Uzi Arad as saying, "I do know what happened, and when it comes out it will stun everyone."

LOL, do I hear a frightened, sharp intake of breath from the ever more nervous terrorist apologizers on the left? Seems as if this "stunning"news could play real havoc with the cut and run wienies. October surprise?

Our pilots have been operational continuously since 1991..... the whole AF, including tankers and Awacs.

They operated from Saudi Arabia for ten years and from Iraq since .

NK hasn’t made a move without China’s nod since the Korean War. NK is China’s pit bull on a leash. All of the nuke and missile technology that NK has was provided by China for disbursement to our enemies.

North Korea was/is Stalin's stepchild. At the end of WWII the agreement was with Stalin for Stalin and US to leave Korea. Stalin changed his mind and boycotted the UN. That is how the Korean War got started it was the UN's first military call to arms.

In 1950 Stalin made a secret pact with Beijing to send down the boots, over 120,000 into N. Korea, while Stalin secretly provided air support. Stalin died and there was the armistice. How I know, my father was among those that returned the Colors to the commie haven of New York City after the signing of that stalemate.

Of course you are only guessing that we will leave ( I assume you mean sooner rather then later) and you may in fact be right. In fact I suspect you are. The question becomes when. My feel is that our presence there in order to keep us more safe here will go on for quite a long while, no matter what the whining left spits out for the consumption of their lunatic base.

If I had to guess I would say our presence in Iraq will extend through the next 20-25 years.

Robert,

Actually, I think we agree. The DPRK set off a nuclear fission device. It was far from a successful test, generating a small percentage of the expected yield.

Did they split atoms? Yes.
Did they demonstrate they have a deployable weapon? No

Be well

That’s all fine and good but it is nonetheless your opinion. You surely have no information on the “seriousness” of training of either the Israeli or American air forces.

Then we have the thing about the equipment used by both sides. While the Israeli’s have fine aircraft and weaponry and guidance systems and all that, nothing they have will compare with our equipment.

Given a great pilot flying an F-16 which is what Israel has and a very good pilot flying an F-18 or F-22 I believe the remains with the Americans given the capabilities of the aircraft.

Not only that, but the WMD material Iraq was able to truck, fly, float out of there before we jumped off on them a few years ago is pretty much assumed to be up in their neck of the woods...

So if it ever comes out and can be confirmed its not going to be a big surprise...

“Now that is interesting. They can determine where it came from.”

when it comes to nuclear material identification, each reactor produces an “isotopic mix” that is as unique as a person’s finger prints.

We can tell (down to which reactor) where a sample was manufactured.
