France approves immigration curbs
The French National Assembly has passed a controversial bill tightening entry conditions for the relatives of immigrants living in France.
Under the legislation, the relatives will have to prove they are solvent financially and can speak French.
It also includes plans for DNA testing of foreigners seeking to join family members living in France.
But the new bill has been criticised by some members of President Nicolas Sarkozy's centre-right government.
The legislation would require immigrant family members older than 16 to take a test in their country of origin, demonstrating a good knowledge of French language and values.
Applicants would also have to prove that their family in France could support them and earn at least the minimum wage.
Deportation quotas
If immigration officials doubt that an applicant is a genuine relative of the person they seek to join, they could be asked to take - and pay for - a DNA test to prove a biological link.
An amendment to the bill on these tests says they will be carried out for a trial period of only two years.
The legislation was "fair" and would provide "tools to fight against illegal immigration", Eric Ciotti, an MP from Mr Sarkozy's centre-right UMP party, told Reuters news agency.
But Foreign Minister Bernard Kouchner, a socialist, and Martin Hirsch, a campaigner for the homeless who joined Mr Sarkozy's government, criticised the measure.
The opposition voted against the bill, which will be debated in the Senate next month.
The UMP and its allies have a majority in both chambers.
Mr Sarkozy has set up deportation quotas, promising to send home 25,000 illegal immigrants this year alone.

Yes, this is starting to happen all over EU. The tide might be turning. Now, if we could just get rid of the pesky liberal hippie douche children we’re infested with perhaps the Islamists would realize they have no hope.
Don’t underestimate the French and the Europeans when it comes to preserving their language and culture. They will not let the likes of an ACLU or political correctness result in national suicide. There is a reason that there are so many different countries and languages in Europe despite hundreds of years of war and occupation. They will survive. On the other hand, I have my doubts about us.

It looks to me that, the wimpy, "frogs" we so like to pound on them, have more fortitude and brass balls to implement an agenda to save their country, than our esteemed politicians kowtowing to the Mexicans and cuddling the illegals invasion of our sovereign country!
By looking at it, I just developed a totally different view/image by looking at the French trying to preserve their heritage and way of life, thru drastic measures(according to the PC crowd).
We are wringing our hands, huffing and puffing not to "upset"the Mexicans, while they are invading our country in hordes turning our neighborhoods into "Dumps", just like "home".
To be honest with you, I would like to take a page out of the French book and implement it all the way! My opinion obviously!

Seems France has changed quite a bit since they’ve elected a proper president.
It’s pretty bad when France does more sane and rational things than the USA. Heck, they’ve even upset the Irainians.
We on the otherhand, invite terrorists to speak to our children for inspiration.
Just wait until the high priced Euro begins to have it's effects on EU exports. Welfare and other social programs (Dhimmi pay to the Islamic freeloaders) will have to be cut, and the Liberal Hippie douche children will be fighting with them for whats left.

Wow, I am beginning to think that my negative views about the French may be changing. I think that a summer of youths burning cars, made them figure things out pretty quickly. Europe could get interesting and help provide some leadership. This is sure better than taking oil for food bribes.
