Not to worry, you can still do something to fight global warming: Live closer to work.
Yep - but more importantly, it's a good way to cut down on traffic congestion. People want to live in quiet neighborhoods, but want to work in the city. Then they complain about having a two hour commute.

Red herring alert!
With the internet and high-speed cable, the best alternative is staring us in the face.
Also, de-centralizing "headquarters skyscrapers" away from the major cities would be almost as effective.
With modern technology, that no longer makes any sense whatsoever.
Unless, of course, the doofuses and "climate change" idiots succeed into forcing us all back to the 18th century.
Just saying.

I can't. As a commercial builder they make me put up buildings where THEY want them put up. Besides that, I am not pulling a trailer full of tools and materials behind a freaking bicycle either!

I live a total of 1.3 miles from work but to help offset the greens I drive in the 4x4 after it is properly warmed up of course.

I work in a downtown sounded by horrific ghettos.
If I lived close to work I couldn't step outside after dark for fear of being mugged or killed.
Maybe they should move the work out to me.

I can't move much closer. I work from my house. No commuting required. When I do have to travel, it is to a customer site. All the rest of the project team must also travel on those occasions.

What a bunch of jerks you guys all are.
I moved so that I'm just a mile from my work, I'm saving the planet, but you guys are destroying it even faster.
The one draw back, being so close to work, is that traffic is a bear (I'm not much one for walking) but I've found a back way, admittedly it adds 60 miles each way, but I feel AWESOME about my self the whole way.

Live closer to work. Gee I never thought of that!
I'll talk to my boss about moving the plant right away.
Hey! Maybe we should move the farms to the middle of the city too.

Just about the time they convince everyone to “move in close” to their work, L.A., New York or Houston will disappear off the face of the earth under a terrorist’s mushroom cloud. Rural America will never be the same when the rats jump that ship now fondly called the “Great American City.”

Living close to work is nice, but not always feasible or desirable. The town I work in is an old farming community. Lots are small and many are built on old clearcut fields. I don’t like looking out of my window and seeing 50 other houses around me. The town also sits in a wind tunnel (think venturi effect), so winters are bitterly cold when the wind blows. And the police are very overzealous. Combine that with an anti-growth mentality for business and it’s not a nice place to live. I live 14.5 miles away and the difference is enormous. Best of all, I live in a nice subdivision with one acre lots. People are friendly and houses are hundreds of feet apart. And it’s fully wooded, so you have plenty of privacy.
