They were arrested for being under the influence.

Who was beaten within an inch of his life?

Hopefully, these punks spend a nice night in jail with some of the Brothers in the Alexandria jail. Why? Does a tasteless prank that physically harmed no one merit beatings and/or rape?

I don’t support anyone displaying a noose as a racist, but I also don’t support anyone being arrested for displaying a noose, Communist flag, swastika, or any other symbol.

Al and Jesse are every bit as disgusting as the KKK. Imagine running down there to console 6 someones who beat the crap out of one man because he was white. Sickening.

And, instead of charging those six punks with attmpt murder for beating that white kid unconscious, they shoulda charged em with simple assault and stuck em in a cell with a dozen members of the Aryan Brotherhood.

This whole thing confuses me. I understand that some kids allegedly hung nooses from a tree that some black kid had sat under at the school. (I say allegedly because from all I've read there is no proof as to whom actually hung the nooses). Then 6 black kids beat a white kid almost to death in response to the noose-hanging incident. These 6 were arrested and charged and that is what everyone is all upset about. Is this correct? People are upset because the 6 black kids were charged for attempted murder etc. because they almost killed the white kid they beat up?
I must be crazy but I do not see what is wrong with charging them the way they did. They almost killed that kid. They assumed he had something to do with the noose-hanging but what if he didn't? It's ok to just beat some white kid almost to death because he may or may not have done something stupid and tasteless? Tell me why I am wrong to think that defending and making civil-rights martyrs out of some thugs who almost beat a kid to death is strange and backwards?! Am I a racist because I think the ones who beat up that kid deserve to be in jail?

Geez, I first read this as a moose incident, which I thought was a pretty strange story for Alabama. Talk about mood swings.

One could argue however, that given the racial tensions happening there, putting up nooses outside of a school is the equivalent of yelling “Fire” in a crowded theater. While I condemn it, it is clearly not tantamount to someone getting beaten to within an inch of their life.

Who said anything about beatings or rape?
I was simply implying that it must of been an interesting night for a Klan member who just happened to be in a pick-up with a noose hanging out the back.
I am sure a large portion of the population in the jail also found his stay interesting.

You mean to tell me CNN would mislead us into thinking they were arrested for the “Noose” part?? I’m shocked! /sarc

I think it is safe to say that alot of people are confused.
The two incidents are not equal.
Actual physical harm is not tantamount to a threat.

"Some folks in the Jena area seem to be doing their level best to live down to the expectations of the race hustlers." Indeed they are. See my #9. Louisiana would do well to cede the area north of I-10 to Arkansas.

I guess it never occurred to folks that this bussed-in march of thousands of black outsiders might make some idiot angry.
So they show up in town, in person, calling everybody racist after nearly of year of doing the same from afar. Thousands of racist marchers forced business to close, costing them money, and people to leave town for the day out of fear. For some reason, that is perfectly acceptable and NOT intimidation.
Drunk white kid hangs a feakin extension cord from his truck and “it’s 1960 again”.
Ain’t equality grand?
