Year of racial unrest in La. [Jena, Louisiana] town

After the decision, black students at Jena High gathered under the tree in protest.

Fights between blacks and whites broke out for days, and the principal ultimately called an assembly in which Dist. Atty. Walters, flanked by armed police, addressed the school.

"With a stroke of my pen, I can make your lives disappear," Walters said. In a court hearing where an attorney tried to have Walters removed from the beating case on grounds that he was biased, Walters, who is white, admitted making the statement. But he denied that he had been looking at black students when he said it, as some have said he had been.

Just before the incident that resulted in stiff charges for the Jena Six, white youngsters had attacked one of the six black boys, Robert Bailey, 17, striking him with beer bottles as he tried to enter a party. Only one of the attackers was charged -- with simple battery.

The next day, a white man who had been at the party brandished a shotgun during an altercation with Bailey and several other black boys.

He was not charged, but the boys, who wrestled the gun away from him, were charged with stealing it.

This was a HATE CRIME. They BEAT this kid. They sent him to the HOSPITAL. And they did it partially because of his race. And I haven’t heard a single word about them being accused of a hate crime.

I guarentee you, if the races in this case were reversed that crowd down there would be saying something VERY different (and it wouldn’t be “let these kids go.”)

The black guys committed a HATE CRIME. They BEAT a kid to the point of unconsciousness and then continued to beat him. They committed a crime and they’re going to walk...just like OJ, Michael Vick, Pacman Jones and all the other black guys held down by the oppressive, white system...

I will grant you that every story I’m reading about this is different. Our news media sucks. They need to give us the story and the details and stop trying to parse it so that they get their agenda out.

I agree with you and where does it end? There has never been a black guy in the United States that the left thought was guilty. Not even Tookie Williams. And we need to start speaking out against this *now* because it’s becoming ridiculous.

Immigration law is NOT racist. But the Hispanics see what Sharpton and Jackson are doing and now trying to emulate it. Marching works.

Of course the libs are going to latch on to this crap. They love criminals. They love minorities - especially those that hate the United States. And until we take the fight to the left, we’re never going to beat them.

What these kids did was a crime. It was a HATE CRIME. We need to show the left that the law applies to EVERYBODY - not just the people they don’t like. Otherwise we’ll never get bad laws repealed.

I've been dealing with that threat off and on all my life...even now at 50, I keep my guard up around black youth....and their baggy britched white counterparts now too sadly

First off I am from Louisiana, secondly I have good friends in Jena. Yes there is a portion the town that is racist, WOW a racist town in the United States??? Most of the residents there aren’t though. Now on the flip side I know of 2 small urban areas outside of Los Angeles that are racist towards whites, Compton and Crenschaw. This whole situation is utterly ridiculous and show the ineptitude of the Blacks today. The Black community is being used by the likes of Al “Not So” Sharpton and Jesse “The Shakedown Artist” Jackson and events like this prove it.
Recently there was a young black lady in W.Va. that was brutally raped, tortured, and held captive for a week by some ridge running racist hill billy types that could have been the starting lineup for Deliverance 2. These people, if you want to call them that, did things to this poor child that no human being should have to endure. Where were these so called Black community leaders for her. I doubt she has even heard from either of the Revs. Forget her plight let’s race off to some podunk La. town and worry about 6 hoodlums beating up another hoodlum that is so much worse. Further proof we are in the end days, we are getting to stupid for our own good and natural selection will deal with us sooner or later.

Just curious - if someone you knew was attacked from behind and knocked unconscious, and then 6 guys surrounded the person and kicked & hit him/her...do you really believe 6 months would be enough?

We’re NOT talking about a fight. We’re discussing beating an unconscious person lying on the ground. ANYTIME you knock a person unconscious, there is a chance of killing him. Further blows greatly increase the chance of permanent injury or death.

If someone did that to my wife, I’d expect them to get a lot more than 6 months - even if she recovered just fine. Attempted murder does NOT require you to fully plan on killing someone. It suffices if the actions you take have a reasonable chance of killing someone. Kicking a body lying on the ground fills the bill.

I’m not from the south, but I learned a long time ago that if a white gets in a fight with a black, odds are good he will immediately be in a fight with a bunch of blacks.

The exception is if the black is much bigger than the white.

as a matter of disclosure I should confess that my many fistfights with blacks, their attempted robberies of me, and my experiences with black insurgent and militia violence overseas

that I have been:

aided in a fight by a huge black Jamaican named Chappy when I was in a nice rounder with several American black males...Chappy who was a wonder to behold as scrapper save my ass out of a sense of fairplay and being my pal

I had a small Miami Police Lt who was a black woman pull two gargantuan Dade County black officers off me as they were beating the absolute crap out of me while I was handcuffed and they shouted racial slurs at me

I had a mulatto Haitian smuggle me out of Haiti once after I had punched a prominent black Haitian in the mouth at the veranda bar/cafe at the Hotel Montana in Petionville above Port Au Prince...and he had put the Haitian Guardia on my trail...and they would have no doubt simply have executed me on the spot

there’s others but that should be enough to qualify things...lol

The all European descended jury. Is it only alleged that no African descended potential jurors showed up--wouldn't some court official have that information? Considering, fairly or unfairly, the South has a very bad reputation for trying African descended suspects (or European descended racists) with with all European descended juries, it would have made sense if they had put more effort to get some African descended jurors.

Yes, the jury pool administrator would have that information. Perhaps the defendants' attorney or attorneys should answer that question, since it's up to them to protect their clients during the voir dire process. As a former resident of Louisiana, I've seen many of those parish courthouses firsthand. I dare say that it's nigh impossible to pull an all-white petit jury pool in central Louisiana.
