NEW YORK (AFP) A Chinese-American businessman whose huge donations caused a major embarrassment to the Democratic Party last month has been charged over a 60 million dollar fraud scheme, prosecutors said Thursday.
Norman Hsu, who was believed to be one of the top donors to Democratic presidential hopefuls Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama, was charged by New York prosecutors with fraud and violating federal campaign finance laws.
Hsu, 56, operated two companies through which he recruited victims by guaranteeing high rates of return on short-term investments, paying them with money handed over by newer investors in the scheme, prosecutors said.
He later pressured his investors to contribute tens of thousands of dollars to various politicians he supported, telling them their investment relationship with him depended on it.
"In committing acts of campaign finance fraud, Hsu corrupted a system in which transparency is paramount," New York Attorney Michael Garcia said.
"This case is about-self promotion and greed. Hsu perpetrated a massive Ponzi (fraud) scheme to support his lavish lifestyle and in the process stole tens of millions of dollars from unsuspecting investors," he added.
According to the Federal Bureau of Investigation, Hsu last week admitted to its agents in Colorado that he had used his two companies for "phony" deals and had pressured investors into contributing to political candidates he endorsed.
If convicted on the charges, Hsu faces up to 45 years in jail.
Hsu, reportedly a naturalized US citizen originally from Hong Kong, was arrested on September 6 in Colorado on a warrant charging him with fleeing to avoid prosecution in California, where he was wanted over a 1992 fraud case.
A Colorado court on Wednesday approved his extradition to California, where he was expected to arrive later Thursday or Friday. New York authorities said they would coordinate with Los Angeles prosecutors to secure Hsu's extradition.
Clinton and Obama vowed last month to donate the campaign donations they had received from Hsu to charity after questions were raised about hundreds of thousands of dollars in donations linked to the disgraced businessman.
Check out this thread about Bernie Schwartz + Hsu = New School : Hsu Linked to Past Clinton Scandal Donor
Particular attention to dates : New School board of governors and board of trustees appointments, registration of "Next Components, Ltd" by Hsu, formation of "Source Financing Investments" by Rosenman, New School's India China Institute formation and at least one $10 Million endowment grant... all around the same time...
Sounds like this could be when and where this Hsu / SFI joint venture laundering scheme could have been hatched, based on Hochberg experience and pattern. Dates match. And for what reason and on what basis would Hsu be appointed to New School to begin with? At the time he didn't have anything in his resume anywhere close to such distinguished names as Bob Kerrey of Hochberg...
The tax-exempt foundation is the "front"----the vehicle to solicit monies from Hochberg/Roseman/ Schwartz/ Hsu's companies (the solicitations are cover to aid and abet corporate tax evasion and US banking laws).
The New School would get a cut as the foundation laundered monies in and out of the country, and into Dem campaign accounts.
Foundations do this easily----by listing ghost personnel, advisors, consultants, fake legal fees, admin fees, etc..... monies sent out to be laundered, that end up in campaign accounts.
Even simpler than that. The New School has satellite locations outside of the USA. So it isn't even laundered.

Universities with satellite locations really just erase all borders. Monies, people, research becomes all open movement within their institutions.
So, the New School Annual Fund receives donations from Foundations and groups like this (see Annual Report for more):

And they are easily moved and used for what ever satellite location is in need of.
(Last part of my comment got hijacked into my table)
They will probably donate it to each others war chests.
I will lay odds that Clinton (HRC) donates the money to her own charity.
Excellent finds on Maggie Williams.
By itself, the fact that Maggie Williams turns up in the neverending incestuous conga line of clinton cronies and fixers means little. You’d expect to find that. But turning up on the board of what is starting to look like Hsu Central is beyond the norm, imho. Especially since Williams was smack dab in the middle of the chinese money laundering ring at the WH with Chung.
Hillary and Bill owe Maggie their co-presidency for her work in the wee hours of the morning, cleaning Vincent Foster’s office of stacks of documents before it could be searched.
This one is definitely worth keeping an eye on.
It is mind boggling how all the links are appearing. They all revolve around the Clinton’s and their political supporters...
Why aren’t the Republicans agitating for a “Special; Prosecutor” to take charge... The new Attorney General needs to be questioned during his confirmation hearings on what he plans to do to get to the bottom of this wide spread corruption.
Where is John McCain on all this? Aren’t the laws that are being violated in all this activity the issues he and Finegold wanted to stop a decade ago?
>>>Why arent the Republicans agitating for a Special; Prosecutor to take charge...
It is like a 1996 Redo.
See thread for added tidbits.

Chinagate: The Movie
Maggie Williams, Hillary’s SOUL-mate” could be the KEY to unlock the HSU, ROSENMAN, NEW SCHOOL scandal!!!
Y’know, if Maggie Williams’ husband took a little more interest in his wife’s associations...maybe just read one of her New School Board Member lists tossed on the dresser...they could have avoided all this “embarrassing snafu” stuff for Hillary.
Imagine the scene at the breakfast table when the Secretary General of Interpol (and Clinton adminsistration undersecretary of the Treasury for law enforcement) and his wife discover the quirky coincidence that Norman Hsu, an international fugitive, has been right under their noses all the time. Oh, how they laughed! It’s those tender, spontaneous moments that keep a marriage together.
SoCal investors sue Democratic fundraiser Norman Hsu

A Laguna Beach investment firm filed a lawsuit against Democratic fundraiser Norman Hsu on Friday, claiming he defrauded investors out of at least $23 million and required them to donate to Democratic candidates.
According to the lawsuit filed by Briar Wood Investments, Hsu persuaded the company’s operator to do business with him by taking him to star-studded Democratic Party events. There, the 56-year-old Hong Kong native was praised by New York Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton, California Atty. Gen. Jerry Brown and others, the lawsuit said.
As a condition of doing business with the fundraiser, Hsu directed investors to make contributions to certain Democratic candidates, the lawsuit said. The investors turned over tens of thousands of dollars, including $30,000 worth of checks to Clinton’s campaign on a single day.
The lawsuit is the latest in a series of legal troubles that continue to mount for Hsu.
Last week, New York investors filed a similar suit against Hsu. On Thursday, federal prosecutors unsealed a criminal complaint accusing Hsu of operating a national Ponzi scheme and reimbursing investors for donations made in their names. And on Friday, a San Mateo County judge ordered Hsu held without bail in a 1991 theft case.
According to the lawsuit, Waters invested with Hsu in part because “prominent persons, including Sen. Hillary Clinton, New Mexico Gov. Bill Richardson, California Atty. Gen. Jerry Brown, national Democratic political adviser James Carville, film director Steven Spielberg, actor (Tobey) Maguire, grocery store magnate/billionaire Ron Burkle and others introduced and/or endorsed Hsu as a friend, colleague and trusted associate.”

The attorney general for the State of California endorsed doing business with a fugitive felon of the State of California.
WHO is Maggie Williams HUSBAND???
“The attorney general for the State of California endorsed doing business with a fugitive felon of the State of California.”
This seems to be the tradition of rat AGs for our state.
Sorry, didn’t realize I’d omitted his name. Maggie Williams is married to Ron Noble, current head of Interpol, and former clinton adminstration Treasury law enforcement guy over the ATF. guy. No proof of this, but I suspect he and Maggie met during the Waco investigation,
Recall that Vince Foster was supposedly despondent about Waco. Maggie trots out reams of papers from Foster’s office in the middle of the night and stashes them in Hillary’s private residence.
Ron Noble and Maggie Williams MARRIED??? A match made in HELL and they will never be able to TESTIFY against each other!!
Come here too
Would that be the Maggie Williams who moved to France? It’s hard to take her deposition there.
