Giuliani Seeking Support From NRA (Pigs now fly, Satan buys parka, etc.)
The Washington Post ^ | September 20, 2007 | Michael D. Shear and Anne E. Kornblut

Rudolph W. Giuliani will go before the rank and file of the National Rifle Association on Friday, seeking support for his Republican presidential campaign from a group he once likened to "extremists" for its efforts to repeal the ban on assault weapons.

But even as the former New York mayor strives to burnish his Second Amendment credentials at the gathering in Washington, a panel of federal judges in his home town will be hearing arguments on the lawsuit that Giuliani filed seven years ago aimed at punishing the nation's gun manufacturers for violent crimes involving firearms.

Announcing the lawsuit in 2000, then-Mayor Giuliani wrote in his weekly column about issues facing the city that "this is an industry which profits from the suffering of innocent people. The lawsuit is intended to end the free pass that the gun industry has enjoyed for a very long time, which has resulted in too many avoidable deaths."

He called the lawsuit "an aggressive step towards restoring accountability to an industry that profits from the suffering of others." The U.S. Court of Appeals for the 2nd Circuit will decide whether the lawsuit -- against Colt, Glock, Smith & Wesson and others -- can move forward despite federal legislation that attempted to grant immunity to the companies.

A spokeswoman for Giuliani's presidential campaign yesterday declined to say whether he still supports the lawsuit or the goals he laid out in 2000.

"Mayor Giuliani successfully worked to get illegal guns out of the hands of criminals in order to transform a city out of control," said spokeswoman Maria Comella. "By being tough on gun crimes and enforcing the laws on the books, New York City's murder rate was cut by 66 percent.

I can't believe that the National Rifle Association is even considering an endorsement of one of the biggest gun-grabbers in American history.

Amnesty for illegals,
support for the homosexual agenda,
high tax and spend,
pro abortion,
gun control,

I think Rudy is not the man for me.

That the NRA would give an audience to RootieTootie boggles my mind. I don’t believe he will secure an endorsement from them; I will resign from the NRA if they do.

Its never “selling out” to sit down with one of the leading Republican candidates for President. A discussion is not an endorsement, and it does no one any good to pretend that Rudy isn’t a real player in this election. As of right now, he’s the leading Republican candidate.

The fact of the matter is, he might end up winning. And if he does, we want to be able to persuade him toward our way of thinking as much as possible. We won’t be able to do that by sitting around screaming to each other about how much of an a-hole we think he is. If he wins, he’s going to need to compromise with congress. Thats a regrettable but unavoidable fact. We need to be in a position to make sure that when that happens, he throws someone else's baby overboard first. As it stands right now, there would be nothing stopping him from tossing the second amendment into Ted Kennedy’s furnace. But maybe if we meet with him and discuss it, he’ll begin to look at someone else as more dispensable.

Use your head a little.

. . . even as the former New York mayor strives to burnish his Second Amendment credentials at the gathering in Washington, a panel of federal judges in his home town will be hearing arguments on the lawsuit that Giuliani filed seven years ago aimed at punishing the nation's gun manufacturers for violent crimes involving firearms.

The irony here is unbelievable. LOL.

"I can't believe that the National Rifle Association is even considering an endorsement of one of the biggest gun-grabbers in American history."

The NRA is NOT considering endorsing Guiliani. They simply invited him along with other candidates to speak at a meeting.

The probability of Guiliani garnering an NRA endorsement is zero.

Most polls still say he is, but that’s really not the point. I’m not a Rudy supporter, and if you look at my posts on the topic I’ve been as critical as anyone. But I still maintain that it doesn’t mean you don’t even discuss it with him.

I can't believe that the National Rifle Association is even considering an endorsement of one of the biggest gun-grabbers in American history.

The NRA has given many different persons an opportunity to present their views on gun control, 2d Amendment issues, CMP, etc.

No endorsement is conferred, nor should it be assumed as a result.

I am an NRA Life Member and I assure you that there are many just like me that would mail their membership cards back to the NRA if they endorsed Rooty.

Except maybe for Dog Catcher.

It will be interesting to see what lies he tells to try to convince the gunnies that he in not really a gungrabber and he doesn’t believe that NRA is a problem and not really a bunch of red neck thugs. Can a Leopard change his spots?
