Majority of House GOP endorse Thompson for president Twenty of the 37 state House Republicans today will announce they are endorsing former Tennessee Sen. Fred Thompson in the GOP presidential primary.
"I am proud to lend my support to Senator Thompson in this campaign," said Republican Floor Leader Jeff Hoover of Jamestown. "Kentuckians can rest assured that this is a man who shares our Kentucky values and will take them to Washington as he leads our nation in these turbulent times."
Rep. James Comer of Tompkinsville added in a statement that Thompson "has a history of being a strong proponent of conservative values and is a proven leader."
He said Thompson also is the early favorite among the voters in his heavily Republican district along the Kentucky-Tennessee line. His district includes Monroe, Cumberland, Green and Metcalfe counties.
State Rep. Bill Farmer, R-Lexington, also chose Thompson as his preferred Republican candidate.
The other 17 include:
Sheldon Baugh of Russellville; Kevin Bratcher of Louisville; Tim Couch of Hyden; Ron Crimm of Louisville; Myron Dossett of Pembroke; C.B. Embry of Morgantown; Jim DeCesare of Bowling Green; Danny Ford of Mt. Vernon; Russ Mobley of Campbellsville; Brad Montell of Shelbyville; Lonnie Napier of Lancaster; Marie Rader of McKee; Steven Rudy of West Paducah; Charlie Siler of Williamsburg; Tommy Turner of Somerset; Ken Upchurch of Monticello; John Vincent of Ashland
Thompson, the lawyer and actor, emerged as a potential candidate months ago but only officially entered the race earlier this month.
In February, Kentucky Republican U.S. Reps. Hal Rogers of Somerset, Ron Lewis of Cecilia and Ed Whitfield of Hopkinsville endorsed the presidential hopeful Mitt Romney, the former Massachusetts governor who was keynote speaker at the state Republican Lincoln Day Dinner Feb. 2. Romney has his own Kentucky Web site.
Republican Gov. Ernie Fletcher declined to say which candidate he preferred during an appearance Monday on KET's Kentucky Tonight.
U.S. Sen. Mitch McConnell, the Senate Republican leader, also has stayed mum on the topic, considering that two GOP presidential candidates -- John McCain of Arizona and Sam Brownback of Kansas -- currently serve in his caucus and Thompson is a former colleague.

Is there a Fred ping list? Thought this would be something good to go to it.
Kentucky ping please.
and the Fred Heads tsunami begins :)
This can’t be! Fred is: Too lazy, too unprepared, too old, too sick, too whipped by his “trophy wife” etc...
Ping!
Dick Morris said that Fred was floundering.
GO FRED!!!!
‘Republican Gov. Ernie Fletcher declined to say which candidate he preferred during an appearance Monday on KET’s Kentucky Tonight. ‘
Fletcher is a moron. Anyone else remember it was his plane that set off emergency evacuations during Bush’s second Inaugural?
Maybe they didn’t know about the Toesucker’s words.
Maybe they should reconvene and vote again after a discussion about what Toesucker said.
Ah, who cares, they are just a bunch of brainwashed RINO lovers. Certainly serious people can’t take this as anything but a bunch of idiots backing some guy meandering to the White House...
I went floundering once. It was fun. Used a bow and arrow in the backwater shallows in Florida...
I hope Fred enjoys the sport as much as I did, and it is good to be out among the people while in the sunshine state.
You must mean DickHead Morris.
The list of anti-Fredites is growing. Steve Malanga, Deroy Murdock, Sean Vannity, Debbie Schlussel, Georgie Will, Fred Barnes, The Prince of Darkness-Bob Novak .....
I too went floundering once, with a gig, off Pensacola Beach. Had fun, got a few, and they were pretty good eatin'.
My understanding though is that when Dick Morris does it it's different. Real different.
Not the kind decent people eat.
I used to flounder in the shallows in St. Andrews bay in Panama City, before that town became a dirtbag hang out.
Very fun and very good eating.
I may have missed something, but I haven’t heard Sean Hannity say anything but kind words towards Fred and his candidacy.
Dick Morris is fredophobic that FDT will beat the pantsuit off of Hillary thus dashing his dream of being the media go to guy in regards to all things Hillary.
Hey, I used to hang around that part of the Gulf Coast some back in the late 1970s. Santa Rosa Island mostly but also Destin and Panama City. Or Gulf Shores. It was nice back then. We’d go beaching out at Ft. Pickens (FL) or Perdido Key (AL). Get some beers at Rosie O’Grady’s in Pensacola. It sure has changed all along there though. More people and different people. Still, I remember it fondly.
And yes I remember floundering in the shallows but we were talking about fishing.
The approach maybe different in some cases, but the goal is the same. I count all those who are shills for Giuliani as anti-Fredites. Sean`s a Rooty sycophant to his core. Another RudyBooster.
