Norman Hsu Didn't Intend to Skip California Hearing
San Jose Mercury News ^ | Sept. 19, 2007 | P. Solomon Banda, AP writer

Disgraced Democratic fundraiser Norman Hsu intended to appear for a scheduled California court hearing but may have mistakenly boarded the wrong train because he was "sick and confused," his spokesman said.

Hsu meant to attend that hearing, but may have accidentally boarded the Amtrak train headed out of state rather than a Bay Area Rapid Transit train, his spokesman Jason Booth said late Tuesday.

"That's what appears to be how it happened," Booth said. "He was disoriented at the time. ... We believe he suffered a psychological, mental, or physical breakdown. How that was caused I don't know. I'm not a doctor."

Jason Booth is with crisis communications firm Sitrick and company, who gets paid to make up stuff. (They were the ones who fabricated Ron Burkle's touching anecdote of Bill Clinton touring riot-torn LA areas following the Rodney King verdict and noting how Burkle's stores weren't burned. That's because Ron Burkle treated his people right, Clinton was told. Actually, Burkle's stores were burned. The untorched ones didn't even belong to him til 2 years later.)

If this is their best shot, Hsu and the democrats are in deep kimchi.

No way.

Amtrak - BART ... two very different trains.

I suppose his ticket would indicate where he was going. Or maybe he was just trying to beat the system by riding without a ticket.

Amtrak trains aren’t used to get to Bay Area court appearances, so that’s preposterous. He probably panicked when he realized Beijing wasn’t going to offer him asylum after all. ;)

We believe he suffered a psychological, mental, or physical breakdown.

Look for him to commit Hsu-icide very shortly.

This is a steaming pile of BS.

The Amtrak train to Denver leaves from Emoryville, not SF. The only way you can get to downtown in SF from the Amtrak station in Emoryville is to take a bus. That drops you off at Market St. where you can collect your luggage.

I've ridden that train about a dozen times so I'm intimatly familiar with the route. If I'm not mistaken there isn't a BART station within miles of Emoryville, either.

He must have been in a coma, if he went all the way to CO. Might make a difference whether breakdown was physical or mental.

The BART train doesn’t have Pullman accomodations?

Well, it's San Francisco, after all ... it's more of a "jerk" than a "pull."

I don’t know the area, is there a train station where you can board either a BART or AmTrak train? Would you not need a ticket to even board an AmTrak train? I mean they don’t just let anyone board an AmTrak train headed across country without a ticket, do they?

This guy should just plead guilty and wait for Hillary to be elected. He will then get the pardon coming to him.

If this is their best shot

This and O. J. Simpson's peculiar escapade in Vegas. (His ringing endorsement of Hillary Clinton makes one wonder if he isn't trying to help her by diverting attention from the Hsu fiasco.)
And doesn't this defense of Hsu remind you of Bill Clinton's reaction to the Sandy Burglar doc-snatching incident?
"We were all laughing about it. People who don't know him might find it hard to believe. But ... all of us who've been in his office have always found him buried beneath papers."
Norman and Sandy, just a couple of disorganized, lovable McGoo's.

I said it above. The AMTRAK station isn't anywhere near the BART stations in San Francisco.

Saying that AMTRAK goes from San Fran to Denver is technically correct, but one has to board the train in Emoryville because there is no AMTRAK station in San Fran proper.

The only way to get from San Fran to the AMTRAK station is to get on a bus, provided by AMTRAK, to Emoryville.

I've ridden that route at least a dozen times so I'm absolutely certain of it.

This guy is lying and he isn't even lying well.

No suprise there...
