Health and Human Services Secretary Mike Leavitt said GW Bush would like some sort of universal health care before the end of his term.
Leavitt stated that Bush will veto a Democratic plan that would add $35 billion in taxpayer subsidies to the Children's Health Insurance Program.... Leavitt also stated that Bush will urge Congress to search for a way to ensure coverage for all Americans.
"He'd like to see the larger debate begin," Leavitt said. "The very best opportunity we have may well be in the next 15 months."

I did not delve into every aspect of the issue - but I accurately reflected the spirit of the issue, and the statements made bu the guy from Dept of Health and Human Services.
I did not post this to unfairly target Bush - rather it, in a fair manner, states what was said.
Well said. Big brothers are watching. It seems like you can only use Freepspeak not free speech on FR anymore
That's so true.
I think you should say you accurately reflected what you THINK the spirit of the issue might be. You seemed to be assigning motives to the President that might not be there. No one could tell from the information that you had posted exactly what the President was suggesting be done, and those who are pi$$ed at the President for whatever reason jumped to the conclusion that he was shafting them again. I, for one, think the subject needs more information before accurate opinions can be formed.
I keep thinking the Republican party has reached 'rock bottom'. Then, reality clicks in, and I realize there is no 'rock bottom'.
Isn't that the truth! Totally!
Actually, truthkeeper started it last week. I’ve been thinkin’ about it ever since. (Sometimes a post just hits the nail on the head.)

That sounds a lot like, Bush is only signing the McCain/Feingold Act to shut up the NYT & WaPo, but don't worry the Supreme Court will throw it out...
But then they didn't throw it out and now we're stuck with it.
What an embarrassment Bush is, FDR and LBJ were pikers compared to Bush!
From the USA Today link in the header:
...Health and Human Services Secretary Mike Leavitt said President Bush wants to achieve universal health care before he leaves office.
There was no link or source listed when I made that comment, if there is one there now, it was added later.
lmao.
Good suggestions. lol

AMEN!
and Durbin is going to try and sneak the DREAM act through an amendment to the defense bill...amnesty and worse.
Indeed it is.

Look at this carefully. Bushs SOTU proposal is the ONLY counter on the conservative side to the Democrat government control plans for universal health coverage.
That sounds a lot like, Bush is only signing the McCain/Feingold Act to shut up the NYT & WaPo, but don’t worry the Supreme Court will throw it out...

No, it sounds nothing like it at all. The Bush proposal in the SOTU was strictly about using tax policy to provide people money to buy health insurance. What does that have to do with the Supreme Court?
And of course we know that USA Today would NEVER put it's own spin on anything anyone from this adminstration has to say.
Did they ever put Leavitt's statement in quotes, or is the reporter just assuming that's what it is because he or she doesn't know any better?
what a friggin disgrace. how much longer till he’s out of office?
