So a debate with everyone who has zero chance of actually winning the nomination.

“The candidates no one supports”
I prefer to call this debate “the fight for the VEEP slot.”
Except that when the VP choice comes from the presidential candidate field, such as Kerry's choice of Edward's, or Reagan's choice of Bush, the running mate is a strong runner up, not a proven loser from the bottom of the heap.

Could somebody give me a quick wrap up of the debate? I was seeing Rush perform at MSG in NYC so I wasn’t able to see it.

Dr. Paul is the elephant in the room. How could anyone miss him? He stands alone in conservative prinicple supporting our Constitution. Not one neocon can match his record in support for freedom, individual liberty, and the Constitution.

NOT ONE!

That’s up to the voters to decide. If they decide on a lesser candidate at the expense of our Constitutional rights and liberties, we all lose.

******Huckabee is disturbing. But what’s this with Rep. Paul getting the second amount of votes? From the Value Voters? A pleasant surprise. And the Straussian representative, Alan Carpetbagger Keyes, only got 24. Guess his message isn’t as popular as he thinks it is.*****

Ron Paul demonstrated once again that he will not play to the audience. On a fair amount of the yes/no answers he was the only one dissenting. For those of us that know his positions, the dissent ion was not from the idea, but from the idea that the federal government should be taking those positions or taking actions on those issues.

Keyes disappointed me mainly for his clapping when he disagreed with RP on an issue. It was a lot like Rudi laughing in the previous debate.

It was also obvious to me that the 2nd tier candidates were trying to score points by being the one to take on RP. Hence the comment about not “blaming America First” by one of them.

It is fairly easy for a republican candidate to play to this crowd without moving very far from their positions. RP had the courage to stick to his convictions in the yes/no questioning period even though they were not popular with this group. Given a chance, he would have explained that his dissenting vote was based on constitutional principles, not because he disagreed with the idea.

My sister is a systems analyst, and many of her co-workers thought that Y2K could be a huge problem, so it was a possibility.

It’s always good to be prudent.

“”This is the verdict: Light has come into the world, but men loved darkness instead of light because their deeds were evil. Everyone who does evil hates the light, and will not come into the light for fear that his deeds will be exposed. But whoever lives by the truth comes into the light, so that it may be seen plainly that what he has done has been done through God.” ~ John 3:19-21”

That is very fitting.

Nutshell: Opening statements. Round one had all candidates answering the same question. Round two (speed round) was a yes-no response via red light-green light response that went on longer than we would have liked. Various participants asked questions in this round including Ignacio Ramos' wife, Terri Shiavo's brother, a 75-year old charged with a hate crime for preaching the Bible at a gay pride event, and a smart-sounding kid asking about the massive debt he'd have to pay off. Round Three had a specific pointed question asked to each candidate, including to candidates who were not present (Giuliani, McCain, Romney, and F.Thompson) represented by empty podiums. Two minute closing statements (there were two wildcard minutes candidates could have chosen to use at any time during the debate so some had four minute closing statements)

Questions had a vast array of topics from the predictable ones regarding abortion and gay marriage, to Phyllis Schlafly's questions about the SPP (NAU and NAFTA superhighway followed up). There were a lot of questions because of the "speed rounds."

****He did ok but it wasn’t his strongest debate performance. He had one real high point where he slapped down Ron Paul for his “Blame America First” rhetoric. However, he seemed to stumble more than usual and wasn’t at the top of his game tonight.***

The second tier candidates are trying to make a name for themselves by taking on RP.

It is just another example that RP is doing much better than the polls are showing.

You wanna share with us your crystal ball? What are you, you must be some sort of psychic? You should immediately contact Vegas to place bets on who will win. Just remember though, our favorite repubicans made internet gambling illegal. So I recommend not trying it. But you could share with us what your crystal ball says. Those of us with some connections would like to get a piece of the action.

Yep. Don’t have a soft spot for anti-war kooks, whether they call themselves progressives or libertarians.

does God intend for people with cancer who get cured to be dead too? The only thing that was not ordinary to keep Terri alive was a feeding tube. She responded to love in a way that was obvious to her family. And there are cases where people with her disability have at least partially recovered. Plus, her parents wanted her alive and the slow death of starvation was horrible.

Come on man.. you know as well as I do.. NONE of these guys - have a shot. I have a better chance hitting the lottery. Its Mccain, Guiliani, Romney, and Thompson. Thats it, thats all it will ever be.. Don't get me wrong I like a lot of what some of the other guys say and do, but they are simply unelectable and or don't have the funds. Those 4 are the front runners and if I was a betting man the winner of the primary will pick one of them as the VP aswell.

neocon? A guy who had a father volunteer for the GOP after WWII, who was raised in a ultra conservative household, who dropped out of college to fight in Vietnam and who was Reagan’s right hand man on SDI is a neocon?

Id bet anything you have that those men listed in this debate will not come within 15 points of winner of the Republican Primary. Its Mccain, Rudy, Romeny and Thompson. Thats it.. thats all it will be.. These men debating today are fine men but they do not have the funds or the means . Its simply posturing... It's simply to say ... I was once a presidential candidate.

Infact I cant wait till some of them get the hell out of the race already so the front runners actually have more time to speak in the debates.

The same on the other side.. its Hillary, Obama and Edwards.. thats it.. the rest are cannon fodder.
