An extraordinarily violent day in South Florida -- which began with the shooting of four police officers south of Miami, and ended with the death of the gunman in Pembroke Pines -- brought home a disturbing fact of criminal life: More offenders are taking to the streets with high-powered assault weapons. "You can buy an assault rifle for about $200," said Carlos Baixauli, a special agent with the Miami district office of the federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives. "That gives you a lot of firepower with the flick of a finger."

Not to mention lugging around twenty 30 round magazines to enable the fast switch to keep em coming 600 times in 60 seconds (10 rounds/sec. I dont think I can change twenty empty magazines in one minute, without having to empty them first. :-)

NS, it would.
The nva web gear IIRC had a three mag pocket breast pouch. Would need to hang ten of them on the person.
The sks web gear was a 180 round set of pockets, holding two 10 round stripper clips per pocket, so, would need 3 1/2 of them. Either way, the point being it's a lot of weight to lug around, looking for 600 people to off, or ventilate one person 600 times.
Maybe a caddy, like the professional golfers.
"Uh, caddy, I'll need the AK for this shot, oh, and keep the mags coming for one minue."

Their aim is not to disarm criminals but to disarm law abiding citizens.

I know.
But they tell us that the police will protect us.
Like they did in New Orleans.

This is one of the most blatantly dishonest articles I have read in a very long time. That's because all the info you quoted regarding the rifles came from the Brady Campaign.
It's a simple two-part recipe: 1) Plant seeds of fear in people's heads/create a crisis through articles such as this, and then 2) eventually offer legislation as the answer.

Just plan to always engage in ambush firefights, in front of a prepared position with 20X30 round mags laid out.

$200.00 for an “assault rifle”?
I smell a VERY old AK-47 here.

Well, I’d guessed an AK.
But you didn’t take into account that “it can be fired from the hip...” so maybe you figured on a COMPLETE AK.
Obviously, this AK doesn’t have a stock.

"You can buy an assault rifle for about $200," said Carlos Baixauli, a special agent with the Miami district office of the federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives. Not if you're a criminal. But I wouldn't expect an ATF agent to know and understand firearms laws.

To the looney left, a rubber band gun is an assault weapon.
THis is a direct result of porous borders which have brought Hispanic gnags from South of the border north.

Not to mention that the SKS doesn't fit the definition of an "assault rifle", because it is not select-fire. Just like most of what are referred to by the know-nothing media as "AK-47s".
