WASHINGTON - Thousands of opponents and supporters of the U.S. presence in Iraq will converge Saturday in the nation’s capital for a day of demonstrations.

The anti-war ANSWER Coalition is planning a rally at Lafayette Square, followed by a march to the Capitol and “die-in,” where thousands plan to risk arrest by entering areas where they’re not supposed to go.
Meanwhile, a groups that support the Iraq war are planning a rally of their own. Gathering of Eagles and Free Republic are set to meet on the Mall and line the protest route.
Of Eagles and Chickens
We Americans are a mix of birds,
Some soarers, others grounders;
And from their strong, enduring words,
More Eagles were among our Founders.
But different birds this domain share,
Some soaring, some just clucking;
While Eagles soar, patrol the air;

Unmindful that their heads may fall,
Blind to bright blades descending.
But Eagles being bolder birds,
Seek our enemies in their lair,
Screaming Eagles, forgoing words,
Strike with deadly talons there.
Proud raptors who together fight
Know something Chickens never will,
Love of country and birthright,
A rara avis grounder skill.
The anti-war capons of Answer
And hysterical hens of Code Pink,
Let bird flu turn into fowl cancer,
And their pen is beginning to stink.
As they flock to the Mall in September
To disgrace and dishonor their nation
It would behoove them to remember

Update 3:17pm Eastern. I’m hearing that the peaceniks are throwing eggs at the Eagles.
Naturally, by the way, the Yahoo! News photo gallery is full of anti-war protest photos, but none I see so far from the Walter Reed Freeper/Eagle rally last night or the Eagles’ gathering this morning.
Update 3:15pm Eastern. The Associated Press gives the moonbats top billing in this piece on the protests today. Here’s the brief mention of the Eagles:
About 13 blocks away, nearly 1,000 counter-protesters gathered near the Washington Monument, frequently erupting in chants of “U-S-A” and waving American flags.
They planned to line both sides of Pennsylvania Avenue to confront anti-war protesters as they marched by and follow them to the Capitol.
Retired Air Force Lt. Col. Robert “Buzz” Patterson, speaking from a stage to crowds clad in camouflage, American flag bandanas and Harley Davidson jackets, said he wanted to send three messages.
“Congress, quit playing games with our troops. Terrorists, we will find you and kill you,” he said. “And to our troops, we’re here for you, and we support you.”
Rep. Duncan Hunter, R-Calif., made a surprise visit to the counter-protest, which was organized by the group Gathering of Eagles. The group was created this year by veterans who wanted to challenge war protesters.
“We’re a people of faith, courage and fidelity,” said Hunter, a 2008 presidential candidate. “It’s for this generation that we will win this war on terror.”
There are counter-protesters spread everywhere along the route, FYI. Still no sign of the ANSWER crowd here at the Capitol yet.
I don't mean to pick on the Veterans of any other service, but have you ever noticed that there is always a Marine brings his own Marine Corps flag.....

I sjust listened to the interview the Knight did with Michele Malkin. I have been chatting with him for several years now
...and FoxNews just showed a one minute snippet of the ‘ANSWER’ podium with some Black Panthers (my def), complete with Black Power salutes, screaming at the clueless white BDS crowd! Sheeples led by black muslims (shades of the future?)
FoxNews time on GOE in that snippet... ‘0’ seconds.

Fox news is covering the ANSWER side and ignoring Eagles. They just showed a live shot of the die-in.

There must be at least 50 organizations “sponsoring” this little anti American event. And, I keep remembering the media telling us that “EVERYONE” in the country is agains the war.
Even with all of that, only “tens of thousands”?????
I don’t think that’s everyone.
I wonder, which is drawing more, the Tennessee/Florida game or the anti American protest?
