Pets On Menu For Desperate Zimbabweans

Animals Being Slaughtered For Meat Or Abandoned By Owners.

Conditions have become so desperate in Zimbabwe that people are said to be eating their pets.

Animal welfare groups said it's come to that, with animals being slaughtered for meat or abandoned by owners who can no longer feed them.

The African nation's National Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals said it can't feed pets who've been turned in or find new homes for them. It's been trying to destroy them humanely but veterinarians are running out of drugs for that purpose.

One activist called the situation "too ghastly for words." Others said they've been threatened by Zimbabwe's secret police for speaking out.

The nation's economic meltdown under President Robert Mugabe has led to acute shortages of food and inflation estimated at an astonishing 25,000 percent.

Not funny at all. Really very, very sad. There was a young man from Zimbabwe in my college dorm many years ago. A number of capable and moderate blacks were available to lead the country when the dumb-ass Jimmy Carter decided to back the current leadership due to idealogical compatibility.

Mugabe finally achieves the status of Leningrad during the siege.
Would not be surprised to hear reports of canabalism soon.

Who is dumber, Jimmy Carter or the people that follow him? It is sad, but perhaps a lesson will be learned here for a better future for their nation. However I am not optimistic.

Comrade Mugabe has transformed Zimbabwe from the breadbasket of Africa into a country where "Rover" is the other white meat....all in a period of about seven years.

Here's hoping that someone, very soon, gets the opportunity to put a noose around Mugabe's neck.

I move we send Michael Moore as a special ambassador...you know, in the spirit of “feed the obese to the starving”.

Dems love ‘eat the rich’ rhetoric.

In that spirit, let’s send them Hillary. They could feed the entire nation with her thighs for weeks!

Not too much breast meat though.

Mugabe wasn’t always this way. Like so many African leaders, the give into corruption and become dictators.

I can’t understand why somebody doesn’t just off this guy. Too bad for them they don’t have any natural resources that the West desires.

Successful government is largely a matter of citizens’ self-government, and is mainly a function of character and culture.

Mugabe wasn’t always this way.

I refute the thus:

The Gukurahundi, 1983

Mugabe was always this way, just that he had restraints upon him by his Communist mentors and the likes of Jummy Carter. Mugabe was under pressure to keep his image consistent with that they had manufactured. When his mentors and patrons lost their influence in the world, Mugabe was freed from their constraints.

He still played the game for a while, mainly being constrained by TuTu, Mandella, Mbeki and Obasanjo who replaced the original patrons.

But when he lost a plebicite on a constitutional amendment that would have entrenched his power for life he abandoned any pretence at constitutionality or adherence to the rule of law. He quickly learned tha the African political constraints were no constraints at all.

Yep, but I would also add greed and hence the siren call of communism that sorta got them in this mess in the first place.

And if they did, Mugabe would be keeping the profits anyway. These poor ba*tards are sunk.

Image hosted by Photobucket.com On October 11, 1798, President John Adams addressed the officers of the First Brigade of the Third Division of the Militia of Massachusetts in a letter: 'We have no government armed with power capable of contending with human passions unbridled by morality and religion. Avarice, ambition, revenge, or gallantry, would break the strongest cords of our Constitution as a whale goes through a net. Our Constitution was made only for a moral and religious people. It is wholly inadequate to the government of any other.'
